how do i export a single lane of midi for instance a bass line from a project?

i have a base line that i like that i want to save the midi so i can use it in another project
when i export the mdi and save it i either get all the lanes merged into one or i end up with every lane separated
im not so interested in the instrument sound just the notes

hope that makes sense

still on cubase sx3 by the way

I dont know about cubase, but with other programs, you can "prepare tracks for midi"..this makes each track the basic with just ASDR data. When you open midi files most programs let you choose what tracks to use/keep, then you could just choose the bassline to import..

I doubt im making since..

keep it simple
mute everything else and export just the bassline or delete everything else then export just the bassline(DONT SAVE) then restore everything.
however when inporting cubase will ask you if you want to split everything to different tracks

i was hoping there was an option just to export the one lane guess not

have been doing as you suggested and deleating everything else and not saving
its a bit long winded but works for now

Yeah I never figured that out Steve.
As far as I can remember I think cubase allows you to single that out but in Reason it export all the midi tracks.
At the that point I do the time consuming deleting process.

BTW, which program are you trying to export from SX3 or Reason?

Bottom line is do whatever it take to compose your song.
