The Scene With No Name

Hardcore, straight edge, post-hardcore, grunge, emo, gabba, 2Step, hardstep, screamo, spazrock, techno, tech house, prog.

It's all in a name apparently! Why is it that certain genre names become part of the lingo and others get resigned to history - to be laughed at by successive generations?

We examine how genres are invented, who stands to rise and fall by them and why do people get so upset by simple musical strap lines. For instance, last year, fuelled on lager, noise and a wave of enthusiasm for live music we saw the birth of a new musical scene, or possibly anti-scene. In another exciting twist of musical genres, we were sold 'The Scene With No Name'.

labels are a way of making it easier and easier for people not to think. it's good in one respect as far finding a particular artist and what not, but on the other hand you only have a few select who represent or are chosen to represent a genre.... how many people go pass that?

one of the comments that has me laughing my ass off is "all the labels are just an excuse to make life easier for lazy record store employees"
