OK I once judged one of these competitions and to me they were completely wrong. I believe a DJ competition should have the following rules. 1st whoever is going to host the mixes gets to pick the songs that are going to be mixed. 2nd the mixes should be about a hour long no longer. 3rd both Dj's get the list from the host at the same time and they have 2 hours to turn in there mixes. The reason I believe this makes for a more fair competiton is because then you only have to judge on the Dj's true talents. Programming and Mixing. If both jocks have the same records then then your forced to listen to the mix and program and not one jock playing your favorite or some obscure record the other jock doesn't have. Granted both jocks must have the proposed records. So the host can ask for a list from each jock and make his choice from that list and keep it to about 15 records the most. What do you people think?

Naw, that sounds hella boring... a battle is all about attitude, deep crates, surprise cuts, your best mixes, showing off basically. It's all good fun. Doug Gomez runs good battles with a good judging system. It's like wrestling, it's the drama more than the battling that makes it good.

Yeah but it's not fair no matter what you use. If you give the jocks the same records and have them turn in there own mixes ( they mix the records whatever order they want ) then you can truly judge on there talent not on who you like. Almost forgot the tapes should be put up as 1 & 2 no name of the mixer till the voting is over. Forget attitude that works in alive set but not on mixed tapes for the internet.

i agree with not showing the names, but as for the same records... i'm mixed on that 'cuz i see both the good and bad of it. some people are better connected or sell themselves better to labels/arttists or whatever. that's where i think the same recs. even's that out, but there is a lot to be said for the dedicated digger who can play as well. P-R-O-G-R-A-M-M-I-N-G. that's a big one for me. especially those cut-up-cats. too much soloing and not enough attention payed to the music. and in the end a good battle should raise the stakes and not the ego. just my pocket change smile.gif
