I know we've been through this many times before but a coworker is visiting the Big Apple in a couple of weeks and would like some suggestions on popular hangouts. Thanks in advance. BTW is Nell's still happenin'?

Thanks Ultra, she says she wants a variety. She'd like to know the nice cocktail spots as well as the party places as long as they welcome a minority contingent, knawmean? Of course I already told her about Shelter.

They do still have a Cuban night on Wednesdays (I think - haven't been in 2 years) that was really good. Live Cuban bands upstairs, good salsa DJ downstairs and mad women. Bring some salsa skills or you're assed out. Other than that, Nell's is for tourists.

I would check out APT in the west village and The Martinez Gallery in Brooklyn. They get some good hip hop DJs and a lot of other stuff. Check their websites for what's going on on a given night. Also Bang The Party, of course ;) , at The Duplexx in Brooklyn (Fridays), Shelter (Saturdays), BKNY at 667 in Brooklyn (Wednesdays).

In general, check local rags like The Village Voice, Time Out NY, and Paper Magazine. These will highlight special events that are happening while you're in town.

Tuesdays - Aubette (loungey) & Nells
Fridays - Float & Cheetah
Saturdays - Coral Room
Sundays - Tiki Room & NV (feathers, fur, and velvet dress, FYI)

These are all jiggy, models, music industry, etc. type spots.
