I'm not even sure how much live performances happen, but if you could...name the best or some of the best performances you've seen over the past few years. I'm not counting performances where the vocalist sings over a recorded track.

Great great show though.

Tortured Soul @ Sanctuary last week was really really impressive.
The live stuff done at the MAW parties at Opium Gardens are always well done but one of my personal favs was a couple of years ago, the Nuyorican Soul Orchestra w. Jocelyn Brown live @ Central Park for Summer Stage....
.... when they did Its Alright, I Feel it I simultaneously watched 1500 people smile, felt my own face light up, saw other people closing their eyes and dancing with pure joy, and watched one of my close friends become a house head for life.... it's truly one of my best memories.
Peace

Peace agreed. That was an amazing show. Jocelyn brown was off the hook. And when they did that Jazzy Jeff tune, my jaw was on the floor. B-b-bad-m-m-meanin'-g-g-g-g-g-good....

that Nuyorican Soul concert at Hammerstein and at Central Park definitely were amazing, as was the Elements of Life at Opium Garden this past WMC... I've seen so many live performances (specially back in the day).
I would add Groove Collective, Ananda Project, Abstract Truth, and Adeva to the list.

Now that I totally read the question,I just thought it was a one time thing.Hell,I gotta add Mr.Ali then for sure. They blew out Loletta Holloway. She was singing over tracks...voice tracks.Dajae and Carla were blowing nothin' but heat.It was my first time hearing the band.
I never heard Peven, but have heard nothing but good things about him.

Purely coincidental, but the two best performances that stick out in my mind were done by Kenny Bobien and SuSu Bobien.
Kenny's was a few years back in Miami at WMC when he performed "Change" (which I think is one of his best and I'm not sure if it was released.) Anyway, he just put his all into it. A lot of times during a live performance, the crowd just kind of watches and might two step, Kenny had people all out DANCING during this performance.
SuSu's was just this past month at ThinkSoul. The way she sang just left everyone in awe.
Maybe I just put more weight on the feeling that the performer puts into the song than all of the stage props and dancers surrounding the performer.

I doesn't bother me if someone is singing over recorded tracks either. As I see it, that is how much of our music is produced anyway. I think of a performance by Jazmina at a small space in Jersey last year. The sound system was not great and the acoustics in the room were poor. Yet she tore that place up. When she sang Rescue Me, it just brought tears to my eyes. She brought wonderful, uplifting energy to the room in addition to her magnificent, well-trained voice. She is one who is truly gifted. The fact that she was working at a disadvantage with the sound made her performance that much more impressive, IMO.

Would you consider Jamiroquai House? They always thew down when they came to Chicago...
Mr. Ali has been very consistant
Peven Everett is a must see, One of the best impromptu sets was done last Nov/Dec at Square One closing party and Peven came down with his drummer and a bass player and ripped it for an hour with me spinning some percussion type tracks underneath.
And recently, watch out for AMP FIDDLER, he is the man!!
