I don't throw needles away. Until I get that next job, I just rotate them. But I'm beginning to think that I'm missing something....

When do you know it's time to change yours?

I can tell it's time to change them when excess dust clings to the needles. That's usually a sign that they're wearing down......JMJ

Usually the tracking goes to hell or the sound quality starts to suck too... As soon as I hear sound degredation... time for new ones...

i think i read that you're supposed to change them after 2-300 hours of use. but how would you keep track of that?

All of the above are true to some degree. A combination of sound degradation, tracking problems and yes, dust bunnies will give you that feeling that it's time to replace. After a while you will develop a schedule, mine is every six months on my 680HPs.
