The original had two mixes of the same song. A & B side. If you put up a picture I can remember better without having to dig through my records to confirm the original.

on two sides.
E2 E4 is about 61 minutes long total.
The CD version is one long song.
The original pressing had the embossed cover,
the later pressing had the plain cover.
Then there are the cheesey pirate pressings put
out by the bootlegger who presses all of
D**** ******'s edits.

No I believe they have different mixes ( at least mine does ) one is featuring a guitar while the other features keyboards. And I believe the Vinyl came before the CD. So they might have put them together on the CD later on.

E2-E4 is one long single song.
It has parts, or "moves", like a long chess game,
and they're listed on this particular
amazon.com listing, just scroll down a bit:
http://snurl.com/2lhn
Here's that list of "moves":
>>>
Track Listings
1. Quiet Nervousness
2. Moderate Start
3. And Central Game
4. Promise
5. Queen A Pawn
6. Glorius Flight
7. H R H Retreats (With A Swing)
8. And Sovereignty
9. Draw
<<<
but there's no space between the parts, the music
never stops.
I believe the LP fades out at the end of side one,
and fades in or up at the beginning of side 2,
and it's obvious that side 2 is a continuation.
The original vinyl version came out in 84,
and German CDs came out later in the 80s.
Here's the amazon.com url for CD copies, with
customer reviews:

Francois Kevorkian will also confirm that it's
essentially one long composition, not 2 mixes
of a composition.
Larry Levan would occasionally play the whole thing, using two copies.

BTW, for what it's worth, the wickedest overlay or
"blend" I've ever heard David Morales do was
to ride Inner Life's AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH
over E2-E4...it was fnckin' HOT! graemlins/grinyes.gif
e2e4 is usually the first move in a chess game opening up your queen & bishop.

Jimmyjack got me my copy....I will always be in dept.
Hi John! Should've known i could ask you...
anyhow, to clear things up, BOTH these pressings are German, both have the (same) total piece of music spread out over two sides. Both also have the chequerboard brown and cream cover. Only difference is the company that released them - one is in-team, the other is racket.
According to John the first is the "embossed" cover of the in-team release... and that would make sense...
thanks to all for replying

...and it is one long song. It's divided on the record and continous on the CD. Listen to it high while crunching on Funions. Earthmoving.

John is right...it is one long record...Larry mainly played side one....the beauty(and I guess, genius also) of Larry playing this at the Garage was he would just pick up the needle and flip the record over and start side two when side one was over....
I think this is the best record for making love...long drawn out love....esp. side 2....nothing like running to the turntable and flipping over the record when the foreplay is just getting hot....try it, you'll understand... ;) ....it's also great when you are on a tab...it makes for a wonderful trip....made Thanksgiving dinner to this record one year....played it over and over...what a "trip" that was....the best the bird ever tasted...hahahaha....
E2E4...not just for chess.... ;)

The cool thing too is Manuel plays guitar on the Winter Mix of "Sueno Latino"...it's nice to see an artist who uses a considerable chunk of a song to reference the creator and bring him in to play!

Going by Mr. Hall's information would anyone consider this the "Love Supreme" of Dance Music?

Makes you wonder what else he might have stashed in the recording vaults...
