i read on another board that you used to use belt-drive Thoren turntables with moving coil cartridges.
A few questions:
Which moving coil cartridges did/do you prefer?
Did the belt drive and cart prevent you from back cueing?
Do you still prefer that setup to the technic1200 with DJ cart setup?
Many thanks.

Hey Orion: I used Thorens when the club had them. Such as Limelight and Zanzibar for a while but there bad when it comes to slip-queing. My favorite turntables are the Technics 1100. Those are the ones before the 1200. By and far the smoothest tables. smile.gif

Curious.

Curious. </font>
Only because I like to collect classic turntables and don't have even 1 of those...And never seem to see them for sale. I remember the pitch control on sone of those digital ones they put out were bad as well.
hey folks,
i was wondering what kind Thorens turntable you are talking about ? Is this the 125 or 126 that Francis Grasso also used ( I read that somewhere) ? Was that the standard turntable in the seventies in most clubs, or was the Technics 1100 in the seventies already the most commonly used turntable ?
And David, what turntable did you use at the Loft ?
greetings,

greetings, The thorens model is the mk125...Modified with the Black Widow tonearm by Infinity..Which at this point goes for more than the turntable itself.

greetings </font>
I have 2 but they have the SME tonearm...cant find the Black Widows. I first played on those turntables at Lovelight...The pitch control is only about =/- 2..But they are real quiet as they are belt driven, and smooth as can be.....they need much maintenance though.

By 75' 1100 were my regular tables. The Thorens started to fade once the original 1200 came into being. But there were people that like to work with them so some places still had them and some people loved them like Larry (which is why we put them in Zanzibar after a while). Originally Zanzibar had the new 1200 which I hated. But once they were unquartzed I got use to them. I still don't like 1200 that are not unquartzed. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Yeah I know the feeling. To have Hippie on the set, the one who got me started with the professional DJ scene is incredible.

Is it possible to mod 1200/1210s so's to lose the zero spot (unquartz them)?

I used to love those joints...

Modifying them slightly lessens the abruptness of the start/stop feature and allows you to use your hands to better control the speed of the platter. I've been looking for someone to do this to my tables since my first set of modified 1200s got jacked 11 years ago. :(

Greetings lyot:
With my current parties I have now restored the use of all class A except for the front end.
This should be remedied by Oct when I bring my regular TTables back into play.....they being a
Mitch Cottier base/Fidelity Research tone arm (16 inch) and joined with Koestu cartridges.
There is no exact name for them as they are custom made....it is all physics and fundamentals.

You can still modify 1200. You could probably do a google search and find out how.
