hey all,
Just wanted to get some advice on these midi Dj Consoles.
A friend has just sold his decks n his cd players to move all digital just playing MP3s off his laptop. The console he's using is the Numark Omni (£260/$364).
Its got me kinda interested, but theres no way i'm giving up my decks or my denon cd players.Wouldnt mind investing in either the Numark or the Hercules (£220/$310) just i wanna find out what you good peeps think of these options.
Pro's, cons and experience of using them live????
Hercules DJ Control Steel, Hercules DJ Control Rmx and the Numark Omni.
thanks in advance. o51

Ean does a good job covering the digital DJ hardware scene. He is a little biased towards the Vestax VCI-100 though. :-)

I just had my first all night gig with the new Reloop digital jockey interface edition and a laptop. Before that i used timecode-vinyl (like Serato or FS but a more customiseable solution called djdecks) and before that CDJ's and of course vinyl.
I must say i did like it! I only had to take my 15.4" laptop, the Reloop controller (it has a build in soundcard) and an external 2.5" harddrive. I use NI Traktor Studio 3 for the dj software. I did a back-to-back set with a friend of mine, so we both had our gear connected to a regular pioneer DJ-mixer. Everything worked like a charm, no hickups, good sound, lots of possibilities (looping, 4 decks, effects, full text search in musiccollection etc).
Especially the fact that you now can very quickly beatmatch with the sync options and stuff, forces you to become much more creative with all the tools available. It took me some weeks to get some routine with the 4 decks but now it gets second nature, playing all kinds of small loops in decks 3 and 4, and then looping the playing track with some effect while all of a sudden releasing the track that's been looping for sometimes several tracks already, people get really crazy, they've been hearing the loop subconsiously already, and now the full track kicks in... also being able to mix in tracks that are in a very different tempo without getting chipmunk effects is very nice, mixing some cool R'n'B tracks into a house set is always nice :)
BTW, the main reason i am switching from timecode vinyl to a MIDI controller is that i find the rewiring in the dj booth quiet annoying, it's always a bit stressfull, and i only beatmix, i don't scratch, so there is no reason for me to use turntables with the reloop's jogwheels, cue-points buttons etc.

Has anyone tried the Numark Mixmeister midi DJ controller?
I have no idea what mixmeister software is like but the controller looks interesting.
