If you keep a cd on pause for more than 5 minutes is this harmful to the cd player? What type of damage may occur?

It shouldn't hurt the CD.
The infrared light that reads does not burn into the CD. If this was the case, playing a CD too much would damage it also.

The only thing I can imagine is that there continues to be wear and tear on moving parts even in pause mode. Doesn't the CD keep spinning, even when it's paused? How BAD that is...I have no idea.

(so why did I respond?) :D

graemlins/conf44.gif Also I think the light is turned off when you pause a cd. The spindle keeps spinning though. So the only possible damage is the motor wearing out over time (a long time much longer than 5 min).

The cd will keep spinning so I believe there is nothing you have to worry about. To me this is the same as normal wear and tear on the drive itself if you are using it a lot.
