i'm going to be teaching a course on "coming of age" stories next semester to university students here in korea. i'm going to teach classics like "huck finn," "catcher in the rye," "on the road," and "sula."
just wondering if anybody could recommend some of their favorites, especially short stories. i'm planning to teach the prison conversion from "autobiography of malcom x," but need more stories that deal with race and gender.
the students here have spent most of their lives in a pretty repressive educational system, so want to expose them to stuff thats inspiring. i'm also planning to show several documentaries, "style wars," "dogtown and z boys," and "berkeley in the sixties."
thanks for your help!
