yo, im just curious how would one go about being a eq/efx king, in particular eq's i heard ron hardy was a master with the frequencies, larry levan too is this just old cat's getting nostalgic or is there some truth? and if so what are some principles that could help my mixing?
thanks!

thanks! I think that there are guys who just indiscriminately turn knobs as they rock violently behind the decks and some guys who are really in tune with which effects take the song that's playing and the crowd to an interesting place. I have mixed feelings about effects boxes. I prefer to just have the crossover without all of that other shit. And not that filtered, sweeping eq bullshit, bass, mid, treble. For years, good DJ's have driven crowds insane with just these. Now playing without an effects box makes you stand out.
As far as mastering efx/eq-ing, I think you have to try stuff out. Just put on a record and try out different stuff that you think might sound hot on the dance floor. It's probably best not to add so much eq-ing/efx that you kill your mix, but a little to accentuate certain portions/phrases is sometimes a nice addition.
