graemlins/grinyes.gif </font>
6 23...if you think you're in love graemlins/1luvu.gif with your record player now, wait a few more months and before you know it, another record player sneaks your way into your home for cohabitation....and then a mixer comes into play. :D see, this is what frequent trips to the used record shop and the thrifty does to someone. smile.gif and i agree fully with hearing the song on vinyl although if i'm after an album/single really badly, i can settle for cds/mp3s/tape (and i have a list already)..

speaking of Pointer Sister's "Automatic", i started out a mix not too long ago where i rode that song over one of the Stinkworx tracks on his "Todas Las Noches" ep...

did you find any other Rufus albums? 1983's "Sealed In Red" isn't bad but nowhere near "party till you're broke" nor "camoflauge" with chaka khan...

My friend came over with a mixer and an extra table and speakers with the argument ... "just leave them here and maybe you'll want to try it out." I've always maintained my "Dancer Only" position. Highly doubt I'll jump ship ... I like the relationship this way ... ;)
Nothing new yet but the weekend's coming up and I've found a place that sells records for 50 cents! Whoot! Whoot! graemlins/cheering.gif graemlins/cheering.gif
Only downside so far is records with scratches on them. Oh well ... that's thriftstore shopping though.

It's a Japanese single but believe this is also a US release.

Try www.dmr.com (http://www.dmr.com) if this is Japanese only, saying that it states made in the U.S. on the label, so this should be with you soon ;)

Stone City Band - Ladies Choice

7th Wonder - Tilt (It took me 23 years to find out what this was, after hearing it as a new release!) Andrew, can you give us a detailed description of both the Bottom Line and Elusion songs? Dang, that Players Association ep is a cold one from 1980 (probably the second to last one they released on vanguard) with "we're almost there" being a favorite of mine...if you like "i've got your number", you've got to get the self-titled lp from 1985 on mca with the midtempo tunes "work for love", "caught in the act(???)", and "you've finally found the one" with help from Ralph Edlelajwe(???) doing a lot of production on that album based out in Minneapolis if memory serves correct. "Stay On In The Groove" is a favorite of mine from Mr. Franklin and quite an underrated gem....

speaking of Pointer Sister's "Automatic", i started out a mix not too long ago where i rode that song over one of the Stinkworx tracks on his "Todas Las Noches" ep...

did you find any other Rufus albums? 1983's "Sealed In Red" isn't bad but nowhere near "party till you're broke" nor "camoflauge" with chaka khan...Hello again ... It's already started.
-------
As for that mix with "automatic" on it ... You didn't bring it up just to tell me about it did you? http://deephousepage.com/smilies/mwink.gif
-------
All the best ... I'll keep reading your posts. You're building me quite the collection here. smile.gif </font>
if i we're you, i wouldn't be too stringent about your "dancer only" stance....it's allright to cheat in this kind of "relationship"...believe me, you'll be locked on that mixer before you know it...when i started getting to having a decent collection, i went to a local musician store that was having a warehouse sale and bought the cheapest mixer in the store: a gemini "dj jazzy jeff" mixer for less than $40...

despite the scratches, i would definetly hit that fifty cent record sale...if you bump into a record that is only scratched in songs you don't particularly care about, you can make out with some winners...speaking of record sales, i got to hit this particular place i haven't been to since the fourth of july weekend when i bumped into some serious disco...i haven't found any notable bangers as of late and i am fiending bad...

and about that mix with "automatic"....i still have that on my hard drive...just hit me on my pm and i'll gladly send out the cd:)

over and out....hope your weekend is musically fruitful one and let us know what you run into...take care!

* ohhh sh**! this has got to be my favorite Rufus album recorded sans Chaka Khan. "Tonight We Love"...i just love how they're plucking away at the bass guitars at the beginning of the song and that dreamy synthesizer just before the vocals come in ("tonight we love...tonight we kiss and it's you i can't resist(?)...tonight we love each other")...did you listen to this slow cut on the b side called something like "we've got the way"???? if you like this album, you've got to pick up the 1981 "Camoflauge" album by Rufus with Chaka Khan...you can't miss the obvious steel grey cover...the songs to listen there are "secret friend", "jigsaw", "better toghether", "highlight" and "music man" (the dj song/intro bass is SICK!)

http://home.conceptsfa.nl/~whessels/rufus_ck/camoufl/camoufl.jpg </font>
greetings kelvy, no finds this week ??? </font>
no real scorchers...just a few dumpy albums with some ok songs on it by the likes of Lane Caudell on mca...although last week, i found for a dollar a hot to death Todd Edwards remix of St. Germain's "Sure Thing"....the album version is another scorcher on the slower tip...that day, i also found about 3 white label house eps (unknown) from the mid-90s that are mad nice....let me see what this weekend will bring..

Okay, Jolyon got me on the 7" hunt and I was looking in the 80's section for some stuff and got:

o Section 25 - Girls Don't Count (Factory 018) - this comes in a hand printed tracing paper sleeve design by Peter Saville and is pretty rare. $5

o Joy Division - Transmission (Factory 013) - an absolute classic JD single again with Saville original artwork (this time a photo of the Crab Nebula) $5

o A Certain Ratio - Knife Slits Water (Factory 062.7) $3

o Section 25 - Back To The Hill/Beating Heart (Factory 068) $3

o A Certain Ratio - 27 Forever (Robs Records) $3

And the killer...

o Martin Hannett - First aspect of the same thing & Second aspect of the same thing (Factory 14c) 1979 - $3

Just got back from the Bay Area and Sacramento where I picked up a few absolutely storming classics...

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome (Trevor Horn Remix) (Island)

This is such a GREAT mix of WttP...almost an instrumental, but Trevor brings it in the end. He's definitely one of the most talented producers ever.

Bonk Combo - Car Jam (Electro Jazz Mix) (Mango)

King Sporty and the Root Rockers - Get On Down/Fire Keep On Burning (TK Disco)

Totally amazing version of Connie Case's Get On Down...

Caress - You Got It Too Uptight/Love Spell medley edit (RFC)

This is such a HOT record - amazing live bass and drums. Slamming!

The 5th Dimension - The Age of Aquarius
Helen Reddy - Free and Easy lp (For the song Angie Baby)

World Premiere-Black Super Man-From The South Side Of Krypton-------Premium-Black Super Man-Guest Artist: Muhammad Ali- Producer: P. Sterling Radcliffe- Sterling Byrd 1981.
It's a rap record, but the backing track is played by an 80's funk band and has some killer bass... the instrumental is where it's at for me..some really nice playing...

Hope all is well.

i got that "come and make me feel good" single somewhere...very moody, slinky type of production....didn't Patrick Adams have any input on that song (i have a vague memory, but i might be misconstrued)?

i don't have neither the Charles Jackson nor the Brenda Watts...those sound interesting especially that "your my chance" single...she had a club record back in 1982 she recorded for Emergency records called "who needs a love like that" which i am searching on my own....thanks...let me know if you're still looking to trade in...

never saw that "black superman" nor anything on the "sterling byrd" label..sounds like a winner...speaking of L.A.-based early rap records, i'm still looking for hurt 'em bad's "the boxing game" on groove time records...

hope your week is a good one...take care:)

while i am at it, here are my finds over the labor day weekend:

ce ce peniston -- "i'm not over you"

spinners -- lovin' feelings (1985/by then, the production was falling apart although this album has its moments)

novo combo -- the animation generation (1982/nice lp that mimics the police's style)

leon haywood -- double my pleasure (1978/includes "she's built, she's stacked" which was reworked a few years later for Carl Carlton's "She's A Bad Mama Jama")

jimmy castor bunch -- eman groovin (1976/dang, that "space age" cut is a scorcher of a tune!)

don ray -- the garden of love

soundtrack from the movie "Big Time" by Smokey Robinson (1977)

miracles -- love crazy (1977) -- spy for brotherhood has some interesting lyrics.

jr walker -- back street boogie (1979/produced by norman whitfield)

aretha franklin -- almighty fire (1978/all-around winner with curtis mayfield production)

fatback -- fired up n'kickin (1978/famous for "i like girls" but the sleeper cut here is "get out on the dance floor" smile.gif

paul horn -- dream machine (1978/on the LA "mushroom" label...nice jazz fusion with joe sample on the keyboards and some appearances by lalo schriffin)

herbie mann -- yellowfever (1979/the late herbie mann in this outing hires the production services of claudio simonetti.)

passport -- infinity machine (1976)

passport -- garden of eden (1979)

russ ballard -- at the third stroke (1978/"helpless" and "what does it take" are nice, mellow rock songs)

miss randy crawford -- (1977)

jose "chepito" areas (1974/if you're into stuff by santana, el chicano, and malo...you'd love this album..."funky folsom" is the favorite here.

LaLa (1987/production by full force throughout most of the album...she used to do backup vocals for Kashif, Morrie Brown, and Paul Lawrence Jones)

Dionne Warwicke -- just being myself (1973...production by holland-dozier-holland..."i'm just being myself" is the standout song in here...)

Lorraine Frisaura -- be happy for me (1976/took a chance at it since michael brecker was on the tenor sax & mtume on percussion but it's crap! thankfully, it only cost me a dime...)

sunni -- why did my baby get over me (1990)
