If your feeling the Danny Krivit re-edit of Derrick May's Strings of Life, then you need to hunt down and check out the original version.

The original is available on Transmat. If your adventurous, you might want to hunt down the import release that added one more mix. This is on those Trax imports from England.

For the record, Strings of Life did not need a remix/re-edit. Nuff said.

Oh, in my opinion of course.

Peace

The remix is hot, but when the orginal is in your top three of all time, then I understand...

I wonder what people said when the Jack Traxx version came out the UK, this is ultimately what turned me on to Transmat, KMS and that whole U.S. link.

Let's hope this Danny K does the same

TAC i 100% agree..i think a lot of people are on this remix because of the hype surrounding it, because its danny krivit and it was hard to find for a while...

I love the original, but why can't it be accepted that a re-edit might be hot too? I never understood this "house conservatism". This re-make does the original justice, plus adds a new energetic twist. I will be playing it no matter what anybody says!

Both versions hold their own,
the newer one is of course more polished soundning and the original is nice and raunchy.
They are both good, Krivit or no Krivit,
actually,
before I bought it I had no idea d.krivit had anything to do with it nor did i care.

BTW
this new one also works with a top 40 crowd as well.
It just might go somewhere..............

I have around 6 different versions and the krivit version is certainly the best of the rest. Vic Rosado played the krivit version last night @ soulsonic in london and it went down well. Nuff said.

It's like that, Voodoo Ray by A Guy Called Gerald didn't need a remix, but once it got a release in the U.S. Frankie Knuckles made a remix (Ballroom Remix) which had a different space and time to the orginal - it's comparable to the orginal, but didn't have the dark underground, Musicbox style mood...it was more Warehouse, softer, stings and shit

Both have a time and place, same with Strings of Life - be thankful at least they didn't stick a lyric on it
:D

;) Hah! I like the analogy.

I loved the Hulk TV show and comic as a kid but rented the new Hulk movie the other day and it literally put me to sleep within an hour.

Skipped the Krivit mix of Strings of Life but I grabbed the Missy Elliot thing he did which I like.

I bought the Krivit mux simply because I haven't seen the original in any of the stores for a looooong time. I don't go to A-1 as much as I should. I suppose that would be the first plave I would look if I were really on the prowl. The Krivit mix satisfies my soul though.

I think the problem is within the recreation itself. Whether it's slammin or not, this is one step down the road to the demise of the music. Why, because this energy needs to be channeled into something more creative and original to up the bar and the progression of the music. It's good to bring back memories of an era that was flourishing with good music and vibes, but we cannot become dependant on these feelings. We have to kick the habit of "going back" and move forward.

If you want to introduce a new audience to the sounds, then play the originals, don't remix them, you cheat the new heads out of the essense of the original IMO.

Just because a remake is slammin doesn't mean it's a good thing all the time.

Peace

Hasn't this remix been around for a while now?

I bought this remix over 2 years ago at Gramaphone on white label... and I remember they played it quite a bit at DEMF 2001...

Yes,I first heard Frankie drop it over two years ago.Greg Grey also was one of the cats dropping it,he even had a edit of it.The new version is a Danny Krivit edit. Both versions are cool.Everytime Frankie plays it,the place goes nuts.

I don't care what folks say,if some shit is hot,it's hot.I'm not into the debate over it.If the crowd loves it,play it!!!

I've had many a merry time listening to Andy Ward spin, he used to play at Back to Basics in the mid-nineties, I didn't put two and two together...

Tip of the week: Try mixing from the new Strings of Life into Frankie's remix of Voodoo Ray & you will not get a dry 30 year old eye in the house - tip of the week.. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Can we have a 'Nude Photo' or 'It Is What It Is' remix up in here soon (with no Sophie Ellis Baker thanking you kindly...) :D

IMO the edit of Strings doesn't have the raw spirit of the original. that, it seems to me, is the point, and why this smooth, regulated and safety-first version will be played in clubs, bars and living rooms around the place.

I'm sticking to my copies of Strings and Salsa Life. peace

Here's something to think about.

Try wacking off with a Broken arm for a few weeks.

It may feel good at the moment, but may cause more harm then satisfaction in the long run.
