I also like to rewire it into cubase or Ableton depending on the type of track. Great program.

Do you mean pro producers? The big ones?
I am not sure if they use reason. I think most of them work with Logic, Cubase or ProTools.
But i know a lot of people that produce with reason, all kinds of electronic music. house, trance, tech. it a good tool i think.
i think its good to rewire it with one of the above DAWs. Makes good sounds, nice sampler and drum machine but many people dont like the Arrangement window and editing - maybe they worke it out in Reason 4.

Plus dont forget probably the biggest clencher! no Vst/VSTi/Rtas Support!
I dont mind though, thats always been reasons mantra, they dont want to add Vsti' support because aparantly it would fuck with the all-in-one design they have going on and cause huge stability issues. Reasons like the toy before you step up to cubase, logic or pro-tools, but as blackwax said it can be rewired so if you like working with the redrum or you just want some crazy regroove effects you can just patch it into whatever sequencer your using...
Everyone ive seemed to talk to who knows their shit always seems to tell me reason puts out inferior sound but I really think alot of that is the quality of the samples and what bitrate your working... that said I did do a little A/B with reason and cubase and it did seem that cubase sounded better, for me anyway.

I use Reason 4 and it is nice. But I use it more to build elements to use in a mix or Rewire it to a DAW.

you might be suprised who has used it
Liquid people (defected/Africanism/MN2S)
I know karizma has used it a few times
Thats just 2 names off the top of my head
They may not use it exclusivley but many use it at times
Its a good tool
A few more to add to that Blackwax..
Rocco (rodamaal) uses it in some of his work
DJ Technics used those string refills heavily..
and i also heard Franck Roger uses it sometimes too

One more name to add to the list
Tortured Soul uses reason.
Check them out live if you can.
The keyboard player has a lap top hooked up and plays reason live at their shows.
With almost over 500 GB of refills; I use reason on 98% of the tracks I make.
Reason has its own unique sounds that are unparallel to VST's.
I’m a Cubase user and I use reason as a giant VST along with many other VST's.
I think one of the high lights of using reason is that no matter how many sounds you use the demand of your CPU is always lower than VST demands.
For some of you with a not so updated computer reason will not crash on you because you only have 512mb of ram.
Just for the people that are unaware I get my refills from sources like:
www.bigfishaudio.com
www.loopmasters.com
Enjoy using reason because there is no other production program out there that has its unique quality. That’s why I think the will never change their game plan.
My 3cents!

I love reason its the simplest tool almost like having or rather its virtual drum machine but definately wouldnt recommend it as a stand alone program ....but a great tool for using with protools or any other rewire program

I actually stopped using a lap on stage a couple years back. I can't tell you how many times I was literally running disk utility on stage while the band and the audience stood there waiting for us to start! Talk about stress... considering I was just using it as a sound bank for keyboard sounds it made much more sense to switch to an all hardware setup.
Of course plenty of keyboardists do use Reason in live settings with very cool results, but usually it's a situation where the whole band is playing on top of loops which is something we were never interested in doing... we gotta be live for real
Our studio productions are recorded in Logic and mixed in Protools. I don't even remember how to use Reason :)
Cool program though, I've heard tons of good tracks programmed with it.

i started rewiring reason with cubase.. now with vsts i can do so much more!
but with reason itself and recycle i used to have fun making french house, hardly chopped hip hop beats ect!
reason samplers are very good and the orchestral refill's are top notch.
i love the subtractor synth.

Oh shit, that's right! Yeah that was a while ago... That was the night the sound guy wanted to KILL me cuz I was unscrewing the gate on top of his limiter. Not loud enough!

I have been using Reason since version 2.5 and I love it. I'm just an amateur though :-) I like the all-in-one design of Reason. You don't have to bring in any VST's and the sonic quality of Thor is unbelievable!!! I use it by itself and I also rewire it with Logic Pro. NICE COMBINATION!!!!!
Peace,
M.

Yo Adam can you tell me the proper way to re-wire Reason into Pro-tools. I have PT 7.4 at the moment.
What I'm doing now is making my sounds in Reason then exporting them into individual tracks in Pro-tools, I know there must me an easier way
Thanks!

For minor $$$ investments, I had to use Reason without a keyboard for 5 years now.
Could you guys tell me more on why the other softs are so great for producing?
I'm just curious as I never got my hands on Pro-tools or Ableton or anything else.
Thanks

well pro tool is more extensive in recording and editing, there numerous application possiblities when using p.t, with the latest you can do 5.1 surround sound application, more components than reasons , plus a few other functions you only find with pro tools .i have them all but i still love reason because of it's simplicity you can do everything in a one package deal
