So, you call yourself a dj......but you have records in your box that you love, but you don't play them because you don't think the crowd will dance to it...you don't play them because nobody else is playing it....you don't play them because they are not by a big enough name producer....you don't play them because it's hard to mix out of them....you don't play them because you left them at home and only take the safety records to gigs....you don't play them because you are scared...

....and you call yourself a dj?

I witness the art of breaking a record many years ago by Larry Levan, when in one glorious morning, he single-handedly made "If you Love Somebody" by Sting, a classic, even when the dancefloor cleared the first time he palyed it at 5am in the morning.....and, I'm glad to say, it was the same method I saw used this past weekend when Timmy broke a certain track(%serge%, have the details of the track) at the SHELTER!!!

djs, stop being scuuured...you are the dj damn it...act like it!!

Ray,

Serious questions about breaking records and programming in general: Do you think the way certain parties are set up(too many dj's and not enough hours) may have a large part to play on how dj's program?

Here in Los Angeles, at most parties there are no less than 3 dj's playing within four hours. I'm guessing the mindset is, "as long as I keep them on the floor for my 45 minutes, I'm cool".

A residency helps.

I guess a novel idea (the 3 of us do this at BKNY to make sure the party comes out the winner) is for the djs to get together and try to play as "one". However, in this day of the fragile dj egos, this is difficult....there is nothing wrong with 2 or 3 dj setup if they work together for the betterment of the party....
