I never considered Naked Music as deep house. I'm surprised to hear they will be at the Shelter.

So house from San Francisco can't be deep? or the West Coast in general? That surely knocks out alot of people if you apply your statements... interesting... *chin rub*

West coast can be deep but in their own distinct style which I would not expect to hear in a NYC club. If someone is visiting NYC for its distinct style of music and hears something else, they would be disappointed. Sorry Robbie for stealing your post.

The Shelter plays ALL styles of music..The place is open at least 12 hours. In that 12 you may hear salsa, house, classics, jazz, etc, etc....

TAC [/QUOTE]Thanks. I'm not surprised you understand what I mean.
That music would be more appropiate for the roof of Shelter where people just chill outdoors. It's not banging music like say "Brighter Days". I actually played "Let's Get It Together- Blue Six" and "True Love-Aquanote" Miquels cut this weekend which is more upbeat then the other versions on the 12" and have I another 20 records on that label.
Just because some well respected dj plays a song, it doesn't mean you have to have it for yourself and play it even if it doesn't move you personally.
Lets see if Shelter is going to have Miquel Migs guest one Saturday?

What does Miguel Migs playing at Shelter have to do with whether a track on Naked Music is considered "deep" or not? That's comparing apples and oranges. Just because he's on Naked Music and they do have "deep" tracks, doesn't mean he plays a style of music compatible with Shelter...
It's how you play the record that defines how it's viewed... you can make some duran duran stuff sound deep if you play it right.

In Lincoln's defense...there have been numerous West Coast house-bashing threads oh DHP. And, I have heard plenty of people moan at the club (and afterwards) when Timmy starts bringing out the Naked joints. I don't think that his opinion is all that unusual.
Personally, I don't see any reason not to play and support that type of house. Honestly, much of the West Coast stuff sounds very similar to the Solu tracks and Ananda releases (Chris B has released on a few West Coast imprints), which get a lot of support on the East Coast. It's a shame that there was such a backlash here when Naked began getting stale...

Just prior to the 9/11 slump in sales, Naked was about to break overground via Astralwerks with that perky, smooth, chill sound. They might have succeeded too, as they had mad appeal with the post-raver demographic. Since then, they have struggled like other house labels and their moment may have passed as post-ravers have moved on to more angst-ridden sounds (DFA, Metro Area, electroclash). I heard Naked Music's WMC party described (by house people) as "too experimental" and "sucked".
I think it will be interesting to see where this label heads next as they clearly had a vision and worked hard.
Any thoughts on this anyone?

a matter of opinion, really. a divergence of opinons.
I haven't heard anything from Naked that's worth buying in a few years. I will not play Pure nor Music and Wine. However, I only have the first releases of Blue Six, Aqua Note and Petalpushers. that's it. shit, I'd rather play Deep Swing, Michelle Weeks and some cheesy Grant Nelson shit.

all the naked music tracks are hot!! Lisa ripped it at WMC this year. Good vibe, but the crowd didn't get it and then what was up with tht wack electro stuff they played after she sang? That ruined the whole thing for me and I had to bounce.

what TAC said. Oh my gawd, I completely agree with you!
IMO Naked Music will have to change to be relevant anywhere in 03. 18 months on from 9/11, house is firmly back underground again (in sound and profile) and 'electronica' has shuffled off (it's so 2001).
Clues about where Naked is headed might be taken from featuring Metro Area as Djs at their 02 WMC party, and "experimental" sounding djs at their 03 Miami do. My feeling is they are still chasing their 9/11 -dashed 'electronica' dreams by following the "D.O.R./Dance Oriented Rock" crowd around and that they will become increasingly irrelevant to underground house music.
Prince HiFi
I heard a rough draft of the Lisa Shaw debut full length a few months ago, and all of the songs except for one was under 110 BPM's. Most of them were under 100 BPM's. I would describe it as being smooth and pleasant. Nothing groundbreaking, though. Wait a minute, did I just describe their entire catalog in a nutshell?
One more thing, quit generalizing everybody that lives on the West Coast into one group, okay?

another thing that i don't understand is the "lounge" tag. this is straight up dance music. the voice is very laid back so the music has to fit the voice. you don't see sade doing gospel house. next people are going to be saying you can't dance to Marvin Gaye or Curtis Mayfield.
