For some strange reason, I woke up with Donna Summer's "Come to Me" in my head this morning. Unlike a lot of insecure folks, I am proud to say I like Donna Summer and always have. Let me just put that out there up front.
So I was thinking that this song more than any other, even Enough is Enough (w/B. Streisand) marked a change in La Summer's music from strictly disco to something more mainstream. Unfortunately the transistion did not go well.
Any thoughts of this?
(Yes, Wild i is finally posting a music thread!)

I have to come out and say I love Donna Summer myself. I think she has a great voice and looks great as well. Some people here my be turned off by her because her music did cross over to the mainstream, but most of her tracks (mainly the ones produced by Giorgio Moroder) are classics in my book. I still play 'I Feel Love,' 'Spring Affair,' 'Deep Inside,' and others because they are dope tracks in my opinion. No shame in that ...

(Yes, Wild i is finally posting a music thread!) what album is that on? how does it go? g. moroder track? wild i, i think more people than you may think have a great deal of respect for ms summer. beautiful vocal range! granted, some of her stuff was a little on the cheesy side, she always had top notch production, and was better than many at bringing people of all backgrounds together through her music.
though i could do without "dinner with gershwin" and "mac arthur park" ;)

Saw the VH1 concert a couple of years ago with Donna Summer. She had that crowd jumpin!!!!! That woman can sang!!!!!
Unfortunately, the "Queen Of Disco" tag got her in trouble with both the underground heads and Disco Sucks folks. Peace.

On The Radio MacArthurs Park and On The Radio were HUGE hits for Donna Summer. The only one sleeping was you! Sunset People or Love Is Gonna Change would classify as a sleeper. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.....JMJ
Love her! Took JMJ to mention one of my favorites, "Sunset People."

I'm glad to see Donna getting her due, but my question remains...
Does anyone see "Come to me" as a style changing song for her, or is there another tune that marks the change?
ToeKnee says the song I'm talking about is by France Joli. Is that right? Could I have been misattributing it all these years?

Well, I still like Donna Summer, but it does explain the difference in the timbre of that song. It's the first one I recognized as "welcoming" and romantic rather than sexual.
Okay, having cleared that up, is the any one DS song you can id as "style altering"?

When I was 12, I dragged my poor dad to my first concert and there Donna Summer was in all her splendor.
I had all her records and posters in my room.
To me, apart from her outstanding voice, the most impressive thing about her is her stage presence.
That womanb was born to be on the stage period. She has that lasger-than-life quality.
Amazing.
