View Full Version : Why don't I go to Shelter anymore?

Why don't I really go to Shelter anymore?

Cause of the freakish "holier than..." cult psychos.

I first went to Shelter in 93 at Shelter. It was a great party. I danced a lot. I went on and off over the years. Timmy played a lot of the same good records that many of us bought at the record stores.

People really need to chill out though, it's just a good club. It's not really that deep. If it does get a little too deep for you, maybe you should step back and think about it.

Oh and I know, I know... **** off if you don't like what Shelter is doing, Shelter doesn't miss you, blah blah blah... right guys/gals.

Shelter = Church of Scientology/Hare Krishna/Landmark Forum for NYC metro househeads?

graemlins/rofl.gif

All I know is, when I finally do get there, I'll be mad if someone doesn't sidle up to me and ask me to 1.) Drink some special Kool-Aid in order to be in the "in" crowd; 2.) Sell my worldly possessions and give the proceeds to the club; or 3.) Ask me to shave my head and wear a colorful robe. ;)

it's a nice spot. the women's bathroom was a shitty mess. drinks were overpriced. everybody happily did their own thing...not like some "everybody-knows-each-other-and-loves-each-other-spreading-peace-and-good-vibes" shit, but still mostly quite friendly.

talked to a guy from japan who stepped on my toes. danced my ass off and left around 7. i will go back.

peace

Official Press Release straight from the Shelter website:

7/8/03

The statue of Timmy Regisford was seen crying this morning after news of the Shelter bashing thread had spread through his kingdom. Hundreds have gathered around this statue offering gifts such as sweaty sweat socks still worn from Saturday's 22 hour service. His worshippers are fond of this miraculous crying statue as this is the only object they can worship since photos of Timmy are not allowed.

An innocent bystander by the name of Donger was accosted by the PC Shelter Police on the scene trying to demonstate the fact that "it was only a leaky pipe" that was causing the supposed tear drops to flow from the statue. He will be executed immediatly.

A fanatic said this about the whole thing,"This is MY music, and MY religious experience, and you can't take it away from me you whitey white white person!"

Another Shelter fan-atic slightly disagreed, "Remember, house sees no color, gender or creed on the dancefloor! Just don't oppose us, or talk bad about Timmy, or you can **** off and never come back!!!"

The scene of onlookers has been growing rapidly, and more reports of miracles are coming in by the minute.

This whole thing was hilarious. I needed a good laugh on my first day back at work.

Questions though...is it not possible to be at Shelter and ignore the "fanatics"? Is the vibe so cult-like there to you that you aren't able to enjoy the music at all? Admittedly, I've only been a few times and the majority of those times was long long ago, so I don't know what it's like on a week-to-week basis now.

My little sister came to the conclusion that Shelter was a cult this weekend herself... I tried to explain that its not but the posts of some folks who I generally think have good sense (and better nonsense) have really tested my ability to offer convincing arguments to counter hers. I don't know how it happened but, yo I think I've been deprogrammed... I hope that I won't be shunned next time make it to services...

Your sister compares Shelter to a cult because she simply doesn't get it.Amway is a cult,Scientology is a cult.Shelter is a dance party that celebrates the life affirming properties of music and dancing, point finale!I am a huge Shelter head but you won't see me going door to door like a Jehovah witness
