I'm thinking of switching from Pro Tools to Logic and wanted to know some pros and cons from others far more advanced than I am. I know there are a bunch of Cubase users, but I wanted this thread to stay with Pro Tools vs Logic. Thanks for your input.

If you have time to learn a really different way of doing things, then I say go for it. That's also time you could be making tracks than troubleshooting and reading manuals. BTW, what is lacking for you in PT that you need to switch?

Probably the midi platform in it?
although PT is advancing it. Good thing.
I'd say keep PT Walter specially for recording and the mixing and those killer plugins!
Logic is very cool and insn't that expensive. ake that on the side ;)

I agree Buzzard, that's time that could be used more effectively instead of learning a new platform but I don't do much live recording and I have a few people in my ear. Just making a informed choice. Anyway as long as I keep my digi hardware can I run both? Also to answer Funq, the plugs I'm using won't matter. Though I do have to admit PT8 looks kinda like Logic somewhat.
Im big on Logic for many years and many reasons but I must admit that the new Pro Tools 8 is very similar to Logic in layout and midi simplicity. You should probably look into PT 8. Yes you can use Pro Tools hardware with Logic. Im currently using the Mbox 2 Pro. Pro Tools also has better sounding integrated plug-ins than Logic does.

Walter.
I agree with Dfung and Dmax.
Either upgrade to PT8 or invest into logic and Keep your existing PT.
I don't know any differences between the two but I have heard good things on both.!

What are the main reasons to use Logic? To put it another way - what makes it stand out as a better daw for making house tracks than PT or cubase?
Seems like a lot of people are using Logic now.

I dont know??? all this software pretty much all does the same thing its the end result that really matters ...same thing with hardware i strted making tracks when i was a kid with a Rapman and a yamaha rx7 drum machine
(I think)
you could use pots and pans and rubberbands as long as sounds good ....

Logic 8 is great. There's a lot to learn though. That means you won't get bored with it any time soon but it isn't as immediate (thoughtless) as Live.
If your a bit old school and insist on hardware as I do then stick with what you know and supplement your setup with Logic. If your all about that software, then IMHO Logic Studio is a much more complete package than Pro Tools. The dependency on software will cause one to learn it a lot faster.
Most of my work is done in Live because it's much easier to use in conjunction with hardware instruments. All my plug-ins work better and are more efficient in Logic. Might have something to do with inherent design compatibility. :thu:

I have to say that I started useing logic 8 a couple of months after it was released and I love it. Logic*8 has all the tools to help you succeed. I would also recommend you going to a apple store and sign up for there work shop on logic this will give you hands info on what logic can do and because you have been working with protools you will notice the differences for yourself.
