Papa Records presents Messages @ Salmon & Compass
Saturday 28th February
Following our fantastic ram jam Christmas party down at Salmon & Compass in December, were we treated to an awesome set from our guest on the night Patrick Wilson, the lovely people down there have asked us back for a monthly slot!
Papa Records is now into it’s eighth year and has established it’s self as one of the most popular independent soulful labels around and Messages allows us to showcase artists and djs from the label playing the best upfront music from the label every month at one of the best underground venues in London town!
Joining our resident ‘Messages’ dj Matt L-S, for this month’s session and playing a selection of deep soulful house through to disco and soul from the archives, we’ve flow in one of the one of the best talents in the world, Jihad Muhammed to guest for us on the night!
Jihad has a dj career spanning over twenty years, having learnt his trade early on from some of the best ever including Timmy Regisford and Tee Scott, Jihad landed his first professional gig at Club Mirage in Newark, NJ. Gaining popularity as a masterful DJ, word spread of this man’s skills Jihad and soon found himself guest spotting at The Sound Factory Bar (Manhattan) and Club Shelter (Manhattan).
By the late 1990’s, Jihad found a home at Irvington, NJ’s Club Eclipse. Injecting his brand of sleek underground jams and memorable classics on a novice crowd, he converted many R&B/Hip Hop heads to soulful dance music. From there, he established Club Movement, a weekly soulful underground dance party at Metro Galaxy located on the edge of downtown Newark, NJ. Jihad made his way to NY radio via his relationship with Club Shelter, holding down two guest spots on 98.7 Kiss FM midnight mastermix shows.
Slowly making the transition from DJ to DJ/remixer, Jihad worked alongside Kevin Hedge of Blaze on the Black Masses "My Heavenly Stars" on Easy Street Records and more recently has put records out on Camio Records, Iwanai Records to name but a few. Jihad is now one of the resident DJ's at 43rd St. Cafe located in Irvington, New Jersey. He has the technical prowess, programming, sense of timing and adaptability to move any audience. With the musical milestones, Jihad has achieved thus far, they are just the beginning of what is yet to come.
Warming things up for us on the night will be Jamesey from Global Soul Radio, so we do hope you can join us, as this is going to be one session that shouldn’t be missed!
