Yah man its immense.I come from Scotland and we have thousands of lochs and rivers to fish.I go away for weekends and stuff a lot here.Once a year me and a bunch of friends go to remote Scottish islands and flyfish for a week.Last year we lived ona house ona beach but it was only 5 minutes from 2 of the most fertile trout lochs in europe.we had a riot.lots of fish a brilliant laugh and some of the best cleanest beaches in the world.Pure white sand plus the weather was really hot!!
Amazing!!! :D
I just wondered if any other ppl fished as the states has multitudes of great fishing!!
P.S- that is a great film!

there is a special rod ,line and rell u need to flyfish yeh.it doesnt cost a fortune at first if u only wanna learn the basics and see if u like it.
Once u get half decent at it tho and u decide u wanna take up the pastime u will become addicted and wanna buy everything.
for example i just bought a new fly rod 6 months ago and it cost me £550!!
But its worth it! :D

my rod £550

my reel £120
http://robs-fly-shop.com/cortland_flyline2.jpg
my lines about £250
this is what i treated myself too not long ago but for a beginner there is no need to pay that kind of money!!
there is lots of starter packs that will do the job!!
I use a newspaper on flies. Much more effective......JMJ ;)

I would really like to do a bit of flyfishing for bonefish but the trevally and tarpon big game flyfishing looks unbeleavable!
i was away on holiday in the summer flyfishing for a week on the Scopttish Orkney Islands for trout. One of the days the weather was bad for trout fishing so we went and done a bit of sea fishing.
I caught Ling,Mackeral,Coalfish,Cod,Wrasse and Pollack.it was really good fun and a change from my usual dry fly trout tactics! smile.gif

since you mention Tarpon & Bonefish i can't help to think of Snook, Redfish, Permit, and Pompano...
Ling on a fly? that sounds odd since they're a deep water fish as Cod & Pollack.......

Hey Beaniboy, I used to go sea fishing a lot with my dad when I was a kid - especially when I lived in Shetland, but we were always by the sea until I left Scotland to go to uni. Nothing like your own mackerel fried in rolled oats for your breakfast. I never really went fly fishing except once somewhere around Kinross when I was at primary school - I caught a trout and was well chuffed. I keep trying to get my girlfriend to go on a west coast tour up from Oban to Skye. Maybe we'll get some done if I persuade her. :D

im from Scotland and to be honest the sea fishing up around the Orkney islands is unreal!
I am going again this year and i will be having a day at sea again as the size of some of the fish was immense!

On the subject of west coast scotland.i was up past ullapool 3 years ago with friends fishing and the 3 of us had a nrear ouiter body experience when out flyfishing late at night. The area was called Asyynt and it has to be the most mindblowing are there is in scotland.
A strange thing happened when we out out and we all felt it.the sun had been going down over the pillar mountai(suilven but there was also a full moon at the same time and a pure blue sky.It was around 1 oclock in the morning but up there in june its like that.
It was the most eerie overwhelming strange feeling i have ever had in my life and still to this day no one actually knows why we felt like that.Maybe cos no one had walked in the area for 100s of years, maybe the weather ,maybe the fact that the view was so majestic it blew our minds.I dont think i will be able to show ina picture but i will post what the mountain looks like and you may get an idea of why we felt like that.
here is a few of the area we were fishing and that mountain!

That looks stunning! We're one of the most dramatic countries on earth, I reckon. Driving south from Kyle of Lochalsh through a storm to the edge of a valley, all slate, heather and desolation. At the edge, the vista just drops for miles and the rain is suddenly behind us. Or Loch Awe, Loch Etive, summer holidays on Jura... man, I'm getting homesick now. :D

Beani, I fish, but seldom with the fly, I normally spin for trout.
I also enjoy taking a boat out into the bay and fishing with poppers, lures and jigs.
I'm going to try fly-fishing next year

Hi Beani,
I grew up in Alaska fishing for king and silver salmon, though not with flys. I caught a 52 pounder in the Kenai river once. Also ocean fished in Homer for halibut. They get to be over 400 pounds up there!

We have done some ocean fishing near Seattle this summer. Mostly crabbing for the dungeoness though. We pulled up mountains of large and tasty crabs this year. My friend takes his boat a little farther north into Canada to fish for the white king salmon. It's like a regular king but the meat is much more fatty and lighter colored. This is bar-none the best fish I have ever tasted. Either cut up raw as sashimi or filleted and cooked on an alder plank over an open fire, this is heavenly eating.
Near where we fish now:

I would highly recommend visiting the Pacific Northwest if you like fishing!

I would highly recommend visiting the Pacific Northwest if you like fishing! Amazing Grant .i am going to start saving soon because me and a few friends are going to go to Alaska for our 30th birthdays.
It will probably be kenai as its the best location (populated) i was told.
I will probably pack a few different fly rods with me for that one.Im intrested in Grayling, rainbows,Dolly Varden, sockeyes but i will pack a rig set with a spinning rod for the bigger salmon.
I have wanted to go there for years and i will get there at some point .hopefully for nmy 30th.
The fishing there as you havesaid is pretty much un beleavable.Great pictures btw graemlins/thumbsup.gif :D
