Yo Mike, here is your man................ Spoonie Gee. I put the words up so you can rap along. LOL

Spoonie Gee (http://web.tampabay.rr.com/djskillz/spoonieg.ram)

Yes, yes, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
Funky beats, y'all
Then you rock 'n roll
Then you roll 'n rock
And then you rockin to the beat that just don't want you to stop
Cause I'm the S to the p-double o-n-y
The one MC who you can't deny
Cause I'm the baby-maker, I'm the woman-taker
I'm the cold-crushin lover, the heartbreaker
So come on, fly girls, and please don't stop
Cause I'm MC Spoonie Gee, wanna hit the top
And young ladies, rock on

Say I was drivin down the street on a stormy night
Say up ahead there was this terrible fright
There was a big fine lady, she was crossin the street
She had a box with the disco beat
So I hit my brakes, but they're not all there
I missed the young lady by only a hair
And then I took me a look, I said, "La-di-da-di"
A big fine girl, she had a hell of a body
Then she looked at me and then she started switchin
So I took my key out of the ignition
Got out the car and kept my mouth shut
Cause my 20-20 vision was right on her butt
I caught up with her, I said, "You look so fine
I swear to God I wish you was mine"
She said, "Hey boy, you're Spoonie Gee"
"That's right, honey, how did you know me?"
She said, "Spoonie Gee, you're all the same
And everybody who disco know your name"
I said, "Come on baby, it's not too far
We gonna take a little walk to my car"
Once we got to the car, then we sat in the seat
And then the box was rockin to the funky beat
And then I looked at her and pushed the seat back
Turned off her box and put on my 8-track
And then I started rappin without no pause
Cause my mind was just gettin in those draws
And then I got in the straw, we started do it to the beat
And started doin like this, started doin the freak

Yes, yes, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
Cause I'm MC Spoonie Gee, I wanna be known
As the metropolitician of the microphone
Cause I'm a man's threat
And I'm a woman's pet
And I'm known as the mamsel's joy
And I'm a man who fights on the microphone
And who all the people enjoy, y'all
Yes, yes, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
And don't stop
Keep on

Say I was breakin and freakin at a disco place
I met a fine girl, she had a pretty face
And then she took me home, you say, "The very same night?"
The girl was on and she was outta sight
And then I got the girl for three hours straight
But I had to go to work, so I couldn't be late
I said, "Where's your man?" she said, "He's in jail"
I said, "Come on baby, cause you're tellin a tale
Cause if he comes at me and then he wants to fight
See I'ma get the man good and I'ma get him right
See I'ma roll my barrel and keep the bullets still
And when I shoot my shot, I'm gonna shoot to kill
Cause I'm the Spoonie-Spoon, I don't mess around
I drop a man where he stand right into the ground
You say from Africa to France, say to Germany
Because you can't get a man tryin to mess with me
Cause I'm a smooth talker, I'm the midnight stalker
I'm the image of the man they call the J.D. Walker
If you're gonna be my girl, just come along
And just clap your hands to my funky song
I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't gamble neither
And most people call me a woman pleaser
Cause I keep their phone numbers on the shelf
I go to make love, and then keep it to myself
So no one's gonna know what I'm doin to you
Not your sister, brother, niece, nor your mother, father too"

And take that y'all
And don't stop
You keep on and on and on and on
Like hot butter on say what, the popcorn
Young ladies rock on
Fly guys
What a big surprise
Cause I'm MC Spoonie Gee, don't take no mess
>From the north, the south, from east or west
Cause everybody knows MC Spoonie Gee's the best
Young ladies rock on, y'all
Rock, rock, y'all and don't stop
Keep on to the shill shot
And then you rock and roll
And then you roll and rock
And then you rock to the beat that just don't wantcha to stop
Cause I'm the S to the p-double o-n-y g
I'm talkin about me, MC Spoonie Gee
Rock on, y'all
And don't stop
Keep on to the shill shot
Rock on and on and on and on
Like hot butter on say what, the popcorn
Don't stop the funky beat till the break of dawn
Young ladies
Young ladies

Cause I'm the cool-crushin lover, goes on to supreme
And when it comes to fine girls I'm like a lovin machine
It comes to makin love, I do the best I can
Cause I'm known from coast to coast as the sixty-minute man
It comes to makin face, I got the macho class
I have all the fly girls shakin their ass
So for all you fly girls who wanna be loved
Check me out, cause I'm the highest above
I'm gonna call you up and give you an invitation
So you can see the way Spoonie Gee rocks the nation
One time, for the mind, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
Funky freaks, y'all
Yo go hip - hop - a hip-hip a hop
And then you're rockin to the hip, and then you're rockin the hop
And then you on and on and on and on
The beat don't stop until the freaks are gone
And rock on y'all, and don't stop
Keep on to the shill shot

And for you sucker-sucker dudes who commit a crime
You wanna do bad, but don't do the time
I say you wanna be dissed and then you wanna be a crook
You find a old lady, take her pocketbook
And then you steal your mother's borrowed money on the sly
You can run, but you can't hide
When the cops crashed through, your face turned pale
I'ma tell you a little story about the jail
Cause see, in jail there's a game and it's called survival
And they run it down to you on your first arrival
They tell you what you can and cannot do
But if you go to jail, watch yours for a crew
Cause when you go in the shower, he's pullin his meat
And he's lookin at you and say you look real sweet
And at first there was one, now ten walked in
Now how in the hell did you expect to win?
I said you better look alive, not like you take dope
And please my brother, don't drop the soap
And if you get out the bathroom, and you're alive
Just remember only a man can survive
In jail of course, cause when you're doin 15 years
You got no ??????, you just have a warden
????? no ???? a corner
?????

Yes, yes, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
And don't stop
Keep on to shill shot
Like a lime to a lemon and a lemon to a lime
I keep the funky beat, I say I pass the time
And like lemon and lime and like a lime to a lemon
A MC could attract all the women
Cause I'm Spoonie Gee, and I wanna be known
As the metropolitician of the microphone
Yes, yes, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
So just clap your hands and just stomp your feet
And just rock to the rhythm of the funky beat
To the funky, funky, funky, funky beat
The beat that makes you get up and pat your feet
Young ladies rock on, y'all
Rock on, y'all
Till the break of dawn
I say you do the Spank or the Patty Duke
Either one you want, you gotta get up and do
The rock-rock and you don't stop
I say I jumped the turnstyle for summer day
And then I seen the guy, and then I fled away
And then he pulled his gun, but he did not shoot
So come on everybody, let's Patty Duke
Cause I'm livin well, and I'm ready to dance
Come on girl, let me show my romance
I'll let you see the way how I rock the mic
Cause I know damn well that I could rock all night
Yes, yes, y'all
Freak, freak, y'all
And don't stop
Keep on, y'all
You go rock and roll
And then you roll and rock..

Spoonie Gee -- "Spoonin Rap (A Drive Down The Street, I Was Spankin and Freakin)"

1979 Sound Of New York Records (later picked up by Sugarhill)

this was the cut that introduced me to Spoonie, just before he did that cut with Treacherous Three on Enjoy (1980) called something like "The New Love Rap Language" (something like it...)

Say Skillz, Good lookin with the link of Sponnie G my man, I used to have 3 copies of 'Spoonin Rap', But, Through the years you know how cats sting(Steal/Borrow and don't give back)you for your jewels(Valuables)my man, Spoonie G is one of my alltime favorite MC's(Not rappers)to ever rock a mic, Either live or on wax, Rhymes Galore with this cat(Spoonie G), Spoonie G set trends with 'Spoonin Rap',(I think the 3rd rap record to come out in November of 1979,After 'King Tim the Third/Fatback Band, And Rappers Delight/Sugarhill Gang), I cannot remember a cat/cats/Young ladies/crew rocking nonstop on wax from start to finish like Spoonie G did on 'Spoonin Rap in 1979', No bridges(Musical interlude), Just going for yours lyrically on the mic, If i can find a tape i once had with Spoonie G live at a spot(Park in Hartford, Connecticut)in the summer of 1979 with Dj Easy Lee(Treacherous 3's Dj/But There all crew),Kurtis Blow,Davy D,Infinity Machine(Dj Devine,Groovy Lou,Disco Kid), And Woody Wood, I will definitely look out, Say Kelvy, I know how you love Spoonie G just as much as me(By reading your post through the years on this board), The joint, 'The New Rap Language was a major Hiphop classic with the Treacherous 3 and Spoonie G rocking the mic in 1980(I think Love Rap by Spoonie G was on the other side of the New Rap Language), But never before has any crew rhyme like that(Very fast style which cats like the Furious 5 and Mean Machine bit back then early 80's), I've always felt that the Treacherous 3(Kool Moe D,LA Sunshine,Special K)with Spoonie G was by far the best MC crew of alltime, And i cannot forget the cat who used to put the beats together for them(Dj'ing)Easy Lee.
My Alltime Favorite MC list.
1.Mele Mel(Furious 5)
2.Kool Moe D(Treacherous 3)
3.Spoonie G(Formely of the Treacherous 3)
4.Grandmaster Caz(Cold Crush 4)
5.Dj Hollywood

hey Mike Barnes! :D hail.gif great to see your words appear around here....Spoonie G's style seems tireless; he's relentless! remember that cut he made on sugarhill in '81 called "spoonie is back" and "monster jam" with the sequence...dang! and i have this brief freestyle that i downloaded when audiogalaxy was around...it was definetly taped next to an audio speaker where he's on at it and towards the end, he mentions that he was making a great comeback (probably early 80s???)

speaking of hollywood, i recently bumped into a copy of his 1980 single "shock shock the house"....produced by Ralph MacDonald.

have you seen/heard these before Mike? i have yet to see one live...

Say Kelvy, I definitely remember the cut 'Shock,Shock, The house', By Dj Hollywood(I forgot what label the joint was on), Now, The Outlaw four joint(Million Dollar Legs), I don't remember by name, But, 'Get the party Jumpin', by Solo Sound sounds very familiar, Getting back to Spoonie G, Yeah, I remember 'Spoonie is back', And Monster Jam with Sequence(Funk you right on up fame), Both very nice songs know matter what era you rock them, Say Kelvy,Dj Skillz, Do you cats remember when cats(Dj's)used to rock the break of 'Funk you right on up', Hard back in the day(Early 80's), And let an Mc go for his lyrically on the mic, Just like cats(Dj's) used to rock the break of 'Sending my love', by Pleasure in i think 1982.

Mike, that Dj Hollywood single was out on Epic Records....dang! i never witnessed a dj working the break from "funk you right on up" hard; i was too young back then to be cognizant of that happening (it was later in life when i started reading about the origins of hip-hop). Now Dj Skillz, SammyRock, and Rated M must know...they were first-hand witnesses!

"sending my love"...yikes! i recently did a mix where i mixed doubles of that song, bringing the intro back when the break was ending, flanging, and echoing...i loooove that record...you're right on the money Mr. Barnes: it was 1982 on RCA records and i think that was their last album (a very underrated album)...

let's keep this going....

Say Kelvy, Good lookin with the information on the Dj Hollywood joint, 'Shock,Shock, The House', I didn't know that Ralph Mcdonald(Jam on the groove fame if i remember correctly)Produced that joint, 'Sending my love', By Pleasure was a vastly underrated song, Cats used to rock the break for minutes at a time back in the day, Another song with a very nice break from way back is 'Wings of Fire', by Dennis Coffey, As well as 'Dancin and Prancin', By Candido, 'Do what you wanna do' by T-Connection, 'Put your money were your mouth is', by The Olympic Runners', Action By Orange Crush,'Heaven of my life by Change', 'I'm Ready' by Kano, 'Open Sesame' by Kool and the Gang, 'Take a chance on love', by Frances Joli, 'Dying to be dancin', by Empress, 'Too late', by Junior just to name a few(LOL).

Mr. Barnes! "Heaven of my life" is a slept-on cut from their 1981 "Miracles" album....true to the early Change albums, the bass guitars take center stage in a rather crisp and fluid fashion.

while you're at it...we got to talk about "supersperm" and "mount airy groove"...and ohio players "funky worm" as well... :D :D

one overlooked break is the minimalistic, hypnotic intro to Edgar Winter's Group "Above and Beyond".

hope your weekend is a good one Mike...speak soon:)

Say Kelvy, Your definitely right about 'Heaven of my life', Being underrated my man, I've always felt that 'Heaven of my life', Is just as good as 'Glow of love, That whole Miracles Album was rocking to me, Another underrated song from that Miracles album is 'Stop for love', The cat(Who i cannot remember right now)who took over the lead vocals for Luther Vandross let his hair down on that song, Another Song by Change that was crazy slept on is 'Dont Wait another night', From i think 1983(I still have the Original cassette tape), As well as 'Tell me why', and 'This is your time', Also, Kelvy, Do your remember 'She's a super lady', By Luther Vandross my man, Again, A vastly underrated song, Which took a back seat to 'Never to much', Cats used to rock 'Never to much', Back in the early 80's hard, But to me 'She's a Super lady', would kick the shit out of 'Never to much',(Don't get me wrong, Never to much is a very nice song, But the song Got to much attention to me), The joint 'Supersperm', By Captain Rock(If i remember correctly)was one of the old school records that cats would cut(Scratch) back and forth hard, 'Mount Airy Groove', By Pieces of a dream is mad slept on as well as 'Funky Worm', by the Ohio Players, And also 'Heart of Stone', By Silver Convention, All very soulful songs, Here's a few more joints that cats used to rock with nice breaks:'The Beat goes on',by Ripple, 'Wayout', by Slave, 'That Girl',Stevie Wonder, 'Get into Something', by The Isley Brothers, 'Listen to me', by Baby Huey, 'Love the life you live', by Black Heat, 'Theme from Swat', by Rhythm Heritage(For the cats who are very fast on the turntables).

Mr. Barnes! i got to pull that "Miracles" album out soon to check out "stop for love".."don't wait another night" was from indeed 1983 (the "this is your time" album)....1984's "Change Of Heart" album was a real good album with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis doing a lot of production there. but that last Change album that dropped in 1985 "Turn On Your Radio" was a disappointment...they took the band member's pictures from the back of the 1983 album and put them up front for the 1985 one (this has always irked me...i can see this happening for a greatest hits compilation but a [then] new release???)

dang, i don't have the "never too much" but i'll definetly have to check out "she's a super lady"...back in the early 80s, Luther not only put out some solid albums but he also was doing great on the production side like the 1982 Cheryl Lynn "Instant Love" album....there was this cut called "sleepwalking" that has Vandross written all over it...

"theme from swat" is a hot break....i have doubles which i tried to extend the break back and forth...that one was a toughie yet i love to attempt it:)

catch you soon Mike....speak soon:)

Skillz, i heard an old Furious Five tape online and Flash was cutting that theme from swat hard! speaking of breaks, what about Manzel's "Space Funk"? the bassline on that sounds like it's ready to swallow a whole floor up....

Say Kelvy, Don't worry about rocking the break of 'Theme from Swat by Rhythm Heritage my man, I read an article where Kurtis Blow mentioned that Kool Herc had alot of trouble cutting the break of 'Theme from Swat', too, I've heard plenty of cats(Headliners and cats trying to get there name out there,Dj'ing wise)fail at rocking the break to that joint, Kurtis Blow mentioned that Pete Dj Jones was a master at rocking the break very hard for minutes, Also, Another cat who used to rock the break of 'Theme from Swat',hard Was Grandmaster Flowers from Brooklyn,Grandwizard Theodore(Fantastic Romantic Five),Dj Breakout(Funky Four)Jazzy Jay(Zulu Nation), I never heard Pete Dj Jones rock the break of 'Theme from Swat live, But, As nice as that cat was/is on the turntables, I can imagine what he did to that record, Another overlooked song with a very nice break was 'Baby's got another', By Finis Henderson(If i remember correctly)from around 1982/83, Reggie Wells used to ruin(Rock it very hard)the break of this song(Baby's got another)at Justines in the early to mid 80's, Also, Captain Skyy was the artist for the joint 'Supersperm', Not Captain Rock, As i mentioned in a earlier post.

IMO, the SWAT break is easy as long as you leave the drum roll alone and just keep cutting it on the 1. It's got that nice cymbal crash and everythang.
