It better be, I heard it was 2 hours and 25 minutes long. I'm not a Bruckheimer fan and Michael Bay sucks as a director, but I hope they pull this one off.

Ebert gave it 1 star, but that movie was funny as hell.

These Jerry Bruckheimer movies represent the worst in Hollywood. Big explotions and no script. Armegedon, The Rock, Con Air, etc. I have yet to be able to sit through this garbage. I'd sooner watch Glitter. Then add Will Smith who is annoying as hell and Martin Lawrence hasn't been funny in 10 years. I'm sure it's got a great soundtrack too graemlins/sleep2.gif

I was deeply offended by Pearl Harbor. I was really pissed off when I saw that movie.
"Black Hawk Down" was another movie that Bruckheimer produced. The only thing that saved that movie was Ridley Scott, one of the best directors in recent years. If Michael Bay or some other smuck directed that movie, I would not be surprised if someone got "fragged".

They tried to be as graphic as "Saving Private Ryan", but the difference is like night and day. Speilberg vs. Michael Bay, go figure. It was a camp film to begin with. The pace of the movie was too fast (this is why I cannot stand Bruckheimer flicks, they all are like this). The film should be shown at a steady pace with more detail that involves more than a couple of cheezy love stories.
If you're going to do a movie about such a historical event in our history, do us and our veterans a favor and do it right!!!!!!!!!
Peace

and i have yet to see PH but i probably never will because a lot of my history buff friends said it was not made according to history. they tried to make it too PC or something according to one friend. wouldn't surprise me.

I haven't read the entire book of Black Hawk down, but there are some inconsistancies in the movie. The History Channel also had a documentary on this event and again, there were some inconsistancies when comparing this documentary to the film.
I liked Black Hawk Down before I started doing the research. I thought that it would be another Pearl Harbor, but Ridley Scott is my favorite director. You can actually see that there's a struggle going on throughout the film between Bruckheimer's flashy approach to all his films, and Ridley Scott's directing and editing techniques. Again Ridley Scott saved the film IMO.

To much time contraints, but I felt the movies gave you a depiction of what might have actually went on.

boy did he! i couldn't wait to see the movie after reading the book because for one, i didn't think that the events in the book were so difficult to recreate but something about it just didn't fit. i actually didn't hate the film and i know shouldn't be so hard on the film because most movies do not do justice to the books they are trying to adapt but i was just very disappointed when it was done. i don't know what it was but something was just missing.

Compare this to Saving Private Ryan, a Thin Red Line, or Full Metal Jacket, and even Apollo 13. There is a sense of fear whenever I watch those four films. The three war films deeply affected my view on war. Pearl Harbor could've but it didn't. It was too predictable and the script was too cheesy and it also seemed as if the dialogue depicted something that would happen in present time, not in that era.
Peace

Since I've been collecting DVDs I have an interest in the audio commentaries. Ridley Scott has some of the best commentarires, especially for Alien, Black Hawk Down, and Gladiator.
I hope that there's a two to three disc collectors edition of Saving Private Ryan encoded in DTS, with an audio commentary by Steven Speilberg or Tom Hanks. I love that movie.
Peace

Peace </font>[/QUOTE]I totally agree with this review of Pearl Harbor. My biggest problem with this movie was that even though we all know what happenned on "the day of infamy," but it did not hold my attention. Other movies based on real life events were portrayed in a way that made me look at the entire incident in a different way. "JFK for example" This may be a bad example, but you see where I'm going. You can take a movie based on a true event and still offer something new, fresh ideas or POV. Now my problem with people that complain about the "Hollywood Blockbuster Movies." These are by no means to be taken serious, they are simply made to ENTERTAIN. Have fun, suspend your sense of reality and enjoy the movie. Die Hard was an incredible movie, but do you actually believe he could jump off the top of a building with a water hose wrapped his waist as the roof explodes and live? But it was great the see the first time in a packed movie theater wasn't it??? (How many times have we seen this movie?) "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is another example of good action movie that created its own reality. Karate movies... How can Bruce Lee kick the shit out of 25 guys? Science fiction movies... Horror movies... The Matrix... Think about it. We all sit and watch this movies time and time again because they entertain. JOHN WOO films are superior to most action films, but they are also the most unbelieveable. Thousands of bullets flying everywhere and the everyone doing flips and diving over tables, with two guns??? I watch actions films to be entertained---point blank...Now I would like the script to be somewhat plausible, but that's another story... smile.gif Sorry for this outburst...

Good points. Pearl Harbor was marketed as a Block Buster and that's what it is, a block buster, not a history lesson that it should've been.
Most block busters with the exception of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy will not run more thatn 2 and a half hours and I think the target audience was obviously the teen demographic.
Peace
