I haven't heard the album but I passed on the 12". I'd prefer Madlib to stick to hip hop, personally. His jazz stuff, like the YNQ LP, just seems heavy handed.

i have difficulties with his YNQ stuff from time to time but on the album there are just like two cover versions where he played all the instruments. the rest are remixes / edits with a few overdubs. it flows a lot easier than the YNQ album. ( on the other hand i really love the Dudley Perkins stuff which is Madlib on instruments and Declaime singing )

haven't heard the album yet, picked the 12" up after i'd opted not to buy it the first time i heard it, it's grown on me, especially like the 'mystic bounce' track.
but too be honest the madlib 'shades of blue' project, encouraged me to buy bobbi humphrey's 'blacks and blues' lp and that's on heavy rotation for the past two weeks.
can't wait for the dudley perkins album to drop, or that egon 'the curse of the evil badger' lp.

That Blue Note project is obviously a very good LP, but that one track in particular,Steppin into Tomorrow( cover of the D. Byrd classic ) is an absolute killer!Best new track for me this year along the Yam Who rmx of Raphael Saadiq.
And the Dudley Perkins LP is great too...Madlib in his own world...He's got some moments of geius, no doubt!
