View Full Version : Wine of the night....
A wine from New Zealand "Babich; Sauvignon Blanc".
"A ripe full-bodied wine produced in a style that captures the intense flavor of Malborough Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy on its own or with seafoad and white meat."
I'm drinking again, but I'm this time I'm not PM'ing the women. Perhaps, I've finally gotten this sh*t under control.
Peace

Prospero Merlot, Sanoma County.
Fucking nice.
I still got about a fourth of the bottle left...
After that,
A small BnB brandy to finish off the night.
Than back to working stiff in a few.

Chergui 2001, a red moroccan wine... bourdeaux-ish flavor.
And last weekend I had an excellent red one; Commanderie-Lalande-Pomerol de 2000, topclass!!!!

I just got back from New Zealand and had the opportunity to try several local wines. They've got a good little industry there (although small). I really like the Mudbrick Vinyard... they also have a stellar restaraunt.

The last thing you want from a Red wine is sweet. YOu want it to be dry. Sweet is for dersert wine and poor quality stuff.
Merlot is the most overdone and hyped grape. Its usually a less than challenging wine. Try something a bit more interesting. An Australian Syrah (Penfolds is excellent), a $15 French beaujolais or a nice Oregon or Washington State Pinot Noir.

Beuuuuaaaahhhjolais !
It's one of the worst wines here in France.
Bordeaux, Morgon, 89 if you have the cash, its a deep wine, it stays on the tongue and has a religious taste.
My favorite appelation.
A lot of US wine are great, but there is not a lot of export here. too bad.

It's an Australian that may be more to your palate at the moment. You may also want to try Lindemans and or Rosemount - again both are Australian. Also there is a Chilean that I had recently but can't remember the name of it that was pretty good, but it may be a bit to dry for you. Gaining a palate for dry wines takes time, so don't sweat it, just continue to try different kinds and develope your own taste.

Agreed Ashaki, the Yellowtail's are always a good choice when going bringing a bottle to a house. The Santa Margherita Pino Grigio was big among my friends. Your suggestion of the wine tasting is on point. I've been to a few and they are always a nice affair.

The Shiraz is the Australian grape.
The Syrah is the wine that is made from the US grape. The US wineries atarted copying the Australian wines, but they call it Syrah

Come on. There are many fine Beuuuujs. We are talking sub $20 wines here (at best) and you come in with a >$200 Euro (retail) wine. Thats hardly fair.
The crappy french wine (it exists) is the Bourdeaux they sell in the US for $10 per bottle. Terrible stuff with a label that looks old school.
With all due respect, the French, who I know well, generally do not know a thing about wines outside of their country if not their Region.
I had a nice glass of Gigondas today. Delicious!

You're right, it come from 2 factors :
- they still think their wines are the best on earth,
- So, they don't try and import any foreign wines to be sure they're the best winegrowers.
And that's pretty silly !
