Anyone there this weekend? These id's , I'd really love to have ;)

1) around 6:30, after about 40 mins of disco. it was a really uptempo with a Christopher McCray/Robert Owens vocal. I think the new kerri chandler followed that one…

2) b/w 8 & 10 am...lyrics: 'music is the answer' again, this was a faster track with a wicked drum patttern.

thanks :D

He played ...
"The night the lights went out" Trammps
"Body Contact contract" Trammps
"You can't hide from yourself" Teddy Pendergrass
"Free Love" Jean Carn
"Was That All It Was" Jean Carn
then went and played "Falling In Love" Sybil (been a long time since I heard that in a club)
"Don't Make Me Wait" NYC Peech Boys
then went into the accapella of "Don't Make Me Wait" then rocked "Love IS The Message" briefly and then quickly brought in "Days Like This" Shawn Escoffery which was followed by "That's How Much I Love You" Ambrosia....the place was going nuts!!
Then he dropped 2 new joints I've never heard, one was some real nice female vocal and then the one after that was a new India Arie he was playing off CDR
The night was dope, not too packed (the cold kept a lot of people home) I got there at around 4:45 and stayed until 10 AM

What exactly would happen - would the cops come in, smell weed and then bust the owner? Better to explain rather than telling someone not to something period, dont you think?

DJ Timmy Richardson

Drugs are not allowed in the clubs. 2 major clubs, Exit and Sound Factory were padlocked last week. If it was legal, why do you have to sneak the weed in. I am sure you have seen the many signs on display warning against drug use. I hope I have explained clearly enough. And yes the club owner is responsible for the patrons.

2121
02-17-2003, 08:22 PM
I'd like to know the mechanisms by which these clubs were closed, i.e. laws broken etc...it's not enough to charge a club owner b/c ppl were consuming drugs on the premises...I suspect the owners of the sf, and xt were involved with distribution. What kind of drugs were consumed in these places...I think you can answer those questions on your own.

If you know the laws you're breaking then you can protect yourself Just because they are laws doesn't mean that they're justified.

And btw, I didn't sneak anything in as three unrelated groups of people shared w/me. They obviously don't get the point of these 'signs'.

How bout it doesnt have to be a law, but it is the club policy. You obviously snuck weed in as it isnt allowed. How long have you been partying in NYC. This has been goin on since Shelter was in the old club and it has been discussed on several boards.

2121
02-17-2003, 08:35 PM
Answer my question. It doesn't matter how long I've been partying in NYC. Oh, and go back and read my post. I stated, clearly, that I did not sneak anything in. Others shared their own stash with me.

I just want to know what the law says.

I just want to know what the law says.Ok they snuck the weed in. I dont know the specific law, but you are aware that drugs are illegal in NY and that is a law, so why does a club need a special law to keep drugs out . THINK about. Trust me, you keep smoking weed in the Shelter and one of 2 things will happen. 1. You get kicked out and 2. The club gets closed down. Don't you notice how few people smoke in there. Probably not.

Ok, this doesn't apply specifically to shetler but I'm going to say it straight up: i'm sick and tired of people just obeying and not looking into the laws that are chaining them down.

YOu're allowed to get ****ed up on tons of 'legal' prescription pain killers, you're allowed to get drunk enough to bust your liver, you're allowed to own guns, you're allowed to buy stocks in company's that are destroying the earth

but...

you're not allowed to grow a plant and smoke it.

Shit's ****ed up.

Do you not have an opinion guy? The laws are WRONG. What's with this slave mentality?

Just because the federal gov't masters say something, you just do it/abide by it. The law is ****ed, it's immoral and just plain wrong. It's enforced to protect alcohol and pharmaceutical industries. Ever learned about alcohol prohibition in the 1920's - sparked one of the greatest crime waves in US history.

I met this guy over the weekend, he was part of the unit of the army that busts drug people etc...one of the most ignorant people I've ever met. Nice guy btw.

He said that the problem with drugs is that they interfere with people's lives in the sense that they can't perform their 9-5 duties.

Am I the only one who thinks this is the most backwards idea ever? It's the 9-5 that's the bad idea, not the J imo.

Weed is a plant that relaxes you...you can't overdose on it. You know when you've had enough and all smokers know that they have to keep it in check or else they'll never get anything done. Unlike crack, where you'll sell everything, including your ass, for the next hit.

2121,
I am not a lawyer but my understanding is that if a certain amount of drug use or trafficing is observed the property can be padlocked as hazardous to public safety. The owners can be held liable for inadequately protecting the premises and thd the patrons. I support your right to protest the laws that you find objectionable but I beseech you not to put the Shelter in jeopardy. It is obvious that the pattern of the recent past points towards the authorities making every effort to shut down dance clubs on even the slimmest of grounds. I encourage you to smoke in on the steps of city hall or at the Starbucks, Gap or Victoria's Secret of your choice. Please though not at the Shelter, and hey please ask your friends to consider the others who value the experience of the space and not light up.

No, you can't o.d. It's sort of like drinking a LOT of chamomile tea (the kind your mother gives you when you're sick) but it doesn't make you drowsy. It's a green plant, not processed like coca. Trust me. Try it, you'll like it. Come with me Timmy, and join the dark side.

PRESS RELEASE
NO.
2003-011
Friday, February 7, 2003

NEW YORK CITY POLICE COMMISSIONER RAYMOND W. KELLY AND SPECIAL NARCOTICS PROSECUTOR BRIDGET G. BRENNAN ANNOUNCE CLOSURE OF TWO NIGHTCLUBS IN MANHATTAN ON CHARGES OF ONGOING ILLEGAL "DESIGNER" DRUG ACTIVITIES

New York City Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly and Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan today announced the closure of two large nightclubs in Manhattan on charges of ongoing illegal drug activities. The Sound Factory, at 616-620 West 46th Street, and Exit, at 610 West 56th Street, were closed on Friday, February 7, by order of the New York State Supreme Court. These closing orders are subject to modification by the court.

"The New York City Police Department is combatting the illegal narcotics trade everywhere in our city – not only in the streets, but also in nightclubs," said Commissioner Kelly. "Our detectives did a terrific job throughout this investigation. Thanks to their hard work, we are sending a clear message to nightclub owners: If you allow illegal drugs to saturate your business and endanger your patrons, we'll shut you down."

Special Narcotics Prosecutor Brennan said: "Most of those we are prosecuting are college students who seemed to have no preciation of the legal consequences to themselves or the harm that their distribution of the drugs brought to their customers. The special treatment they received in the exclusive areas of the clubs enhanced their sense that they could conduct criminal business with impunity."

Both nightclubs have been the scene of numerous narcotics crimes, usually involving illegal "designer" drugs, such as Ecstasy (methylenedioxy methamphetamine or MDMA) and Special K (ketamine). In Exit, undercover detectives not only purchased drugs easily, they also observed many club patrons using them in the open. In other incidents, detectives purchased benign substances that the sellers claimed were illegal drugs, a common ploy used by narcotics dealers to defraud naive drug buyers.

The nightclub was previously the subject of a nuisance abatement action, in September 2000. After extensive negotiations with the club owners at that time, Exit was allowed to operate after club management agreed to institute numerous anti-drug policies, including hiring an independent private-sector inspector general, or IPSIG, to monitor and report on club activities. The IPSIG agreement covered a nine-month period, from October 2001 to June 2002.

At the Sound Factory, the larger nightclub with a capacity of more than 1,400 people, undercover detectives purchased Ecstasy, Special K, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. During the investigation, drug use by patrons was clearly in the open. In fact, on Jan. 26, 2003, a 19-year-old woman overdosed and was removed from the club in an unconscious state. The Sound Factory was also temporarily closed by
nuisance abatement order on April 30, 1999.

This investigation was initiated by the Narcotics Division of the New York City Police Department and the investigation was assisted by the office of the Special Narcotics prosecutor and the NYPD's Civil Enforcement Unit. The Civil Enforcement Unit secured nuisance abatement closing orders against 649 locations across the city in 2002, for charges including illegal narcotics, gambling, ostitution, auto crime, stolen property, alcohol beverage control law, and trademark infringement offenses.

Eleven defendants are being prosecuted for drug sales inside the clubs by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor.

The city is not playing either. A friend of mine is in a rock band. A few minutes before the show...LES..he and his buddies went into their car to have a blunt. He spent the weekend in jail. IF you must do it ..make sure it is in privacy of home.

I highly recommend these public discussions terminate. 2 Friends both Narcs in the NYPD confirmed that these club related websites are checked on the regular to gauge this type of activity. All this does is red flag em.

Can also attest to 2 friends who took their puffin' outside and got their asses arrested, different people, separate occasions! Booked, fingerprinted the whole nine. Both got to go home after central booking cause they had no record. Both had to show up in court, got fined, got records and got community service, etc. etc. again only because there were NO PRIORS. This was with 1, I repeat 1 J on them, nothing more.

hey 2121, i can understand that you had to have it spelled out for you but this was a no brainer. it shouldn't have taken 2 1/2 pages to get the point across. in doing so, a lot of unnecessary attention was brought here. having said that, this thread needs to go to graemlins/sleep.gif !!!! goodnight dhpeepee's :D
