BIOS:

Solid Garage Toronto

SOLID GARAGE can be described as an extension of the Garage Sound born in the early '80's at The
Paradise Garage (NYC). The MUSIC played at this club by the Legendary Larry Levan, defined the term
GARAGE and influenced the next generation of soulful dance music. Solid Garage's goal is to promote
the many layers of this garage sound which is heavily inspired by the roots of SOUL, JAZZ, AFRO-
LATIN, DISCO, TECHNO & HOUSE.

Solid Garage exploded onto the Toronto scene in the summer of 1998, inspired by The Groove
Institute's trip to the Winter Music Conference that spring. They had witnessed some of the top garage
parties & performers the world had to offer. The absence of nights in Toronto playing soulful house
convinced the DJ Collective that Solid Garage was needed. Ten years later their dedication has
ensured that Solid Garage is a Toronto institution, with an incredible line up of international & local
guests. "SOLID GARAGE is about celebration; people coming together for the music".

Groove Institute (Solid Garage Residents)

In 1995 YOGI, MARK & ANAND had their own radio show at the University of Toronto called the
Groove Institute Mix Show. The show's name was subsequently used by the DJ collective to signal
their mission: to educate and entertain people with the music that they loved. The collective had paid
their dues travelling around the U.S. digging deep through the crates for rare old gems and immersing
themselves in the underground warehouse scene of the late 80s/early 90s. They learned their lessons
well and began putting their knowledge to work by establishing their premier night Solid Garage in
1998. In their quest for the perfect beat, the Groove Institute cover a wide selection of music, dropping
soul, jazz, latin, afro, disco, garage, techno and deep house into the pot for a constantly evolving
musical flavor and richness. The true garage vibe!

DJ Stuart (Footprints, Basic Soul Unit)

Stuart is a man of many different guises, having his hand in a number of Toronto's exciting
underground scenes. Many know him as his famous alter ego "Basic Soul Unit", under which he crafts
deftly unique Techno inspired soulful music - winning him critical acclaim both here at home and abroad. Stu brings his knowledge of Techno, Classic House, Garage and Disco to the Foot Prints
people each month, proving an invaluable asset for keeping that steady pace and firing up the
dancefloor like no other deejay in Toronto.

General Eclectic (Footprints, Uma Nota)

Eclectic displays his skills on the decks with heart and intensity each and every Foot Prints party. His
meticulous attention to detail when mixing records and his instinctive ability to effortlessly flow
between genres has won him a large following of music heads and dancefloor junkies. Having been
known to play just about anything in his sets, his style is hard to categorize but impossible to refuse.

King Sunshine (Deep House Collective Band)

As a highly skilled and electric live act, King Sunshine has been lighting dance floors on fire since 1998.
They illuminate disco roots and drop inflections of funk and dance rhythms, reinventing house music
and driving the whole fusion over the red line. Years of sold out club shows and underground parties

Derrick Carter, Ron Trent, Little Louie Vega, Kenny Bobien & Byron Stingliy have all shared a stage with
the Collective. Join King Sunshine as they share their raw explosive energy on the Solid Garage stage!

Arnold Jarvis (NYC)
http://www.myspace.com/arnoldjarvis (http://www.myspace.com/arnoldjarvis)

Throughout his career, Arnold Jarvis has been nothing but consistent - consistent when it comes to
getting noticed. His is a brilliant career that began at the prime of his youth. While only a teenager, his
voice and talent landed him front and center of the Baltimore Gospel Choir for whom he was a
prodigious soloist.

In 1984, modest academic pursuits led him to New York City. However, his talent and love of music did
not lie dormant for long. He was drawn to music industry circles and was quickly embraced by them.
He began to write, perform and record. Among the more notable gems from this early period in his
career are his collaboration with Fonda Rae on “You’re The Best,” a song written by Lem Springsteen
(Mood II Swing) and produced by Kerri Chandler; and his debut single, “Take Some Time Out” (Fourth
Floor Records) produced by Tommy Musto and Yvonne Turner, which enjoyed huge underground and
global success.

In the 90s, he made it known that he meant business and showed audiences everywhere that he was
a force to be reckoned with. First came his guest appearance on Satoshi Tomiie’s “And I Loved
You” (FFRR, Polygram UK), produced by Grammy winner, Frankie Knuckles. Then followed the
monumental classic, “Inspiration” (Freetown Records), produced by Kerri Chandler. He reached a new
pinnacle and gained notoriety when he recorded Swing 52’s epic songs, “Color of My skin” (FFRR/Cutting Records) and “The Joy You Bring” (Cutting Records), which he co-wrote.

At around this time, he began touring the world and has since performed alongside the likes of Queen
Latifah, Kenny Bobien, Barbara Tucker, Ultra Nate, Ce Ce Peniston, Loletta Holloway, Jocelyn Brown, and Byron Stingly, to name a few.

The 21st century has seen increased impetus and creative output from Arnold. In fact, he’s outdone
himself and his already impressive legacy many times over. In 2000 alone, he released “Learn to
Give” (Hysteria Records) produced by Eric Kupper; “Life Goes On” (MAW Records), the brainchild of
his collaboration with legendary DJ/producer Louie Vega and vocalist Lisa Fischer; and “Special Kind
of Love” (King Street Records) produced by Benji Candelario and remixed by Jazz and Groove. He
then released his debut full-length album, Arnold Jarvis, “The Collection” (MFL Records), in 2002 and
followed it with a string of extraordinary singles, including: “Love Of My Life” (West End Records)
produced by the Basement Boys; “You’ve Let Love Slip Away” (King Street Records) which reached
the top 5 on Billboard’s Dance Sales chart; “Make The Time” which was written and produced by Blaze
for Keep Hope Alive, a benefit CD for LIFE BEAT; and “Take Good Care Of Me” (Sole Channel Music).
