a guy well ahead of his time, seems to be one of these people who has gone totally off the radar -
has he done anything worth checking in recent years?

Wally, if you're out there, you remain a influence on me and what I enjoy in dance music

graemlins/thumbsup.gif Nice, Martin...

Kiss Of The Spider Woman 12" and
Novela Das Nove 12" are two of my all time
personal favorite songs on my top 100 dance list.

Have these ever been re-issued on CD?
Has there ever been a Wally Badarou's greatest
mixes/greatest productions compilation?

Fncking genius!

smile.gif Info for the DHP people ;)

b. 1955, Paris, France. Although of African descent, Walter Badarou was born in France, where his physician parents were educated (his father later became ambassador to France from the family's West African homeland, Benin - formerly known as

Dahomey). Despite his early intention to become a pilot, Badarou soon discovered that pop and rock 'n' roll were more to his liking. His chosen instrument, piano, on which he had classical training, would soon grace work by a range of UK and US artists. His keyboard playing was crucial to M's worldwide hit, "Pop Musik", in 1979, and he also collaborated with Joe Cocker, Herbie Hancock, Grace Jones, Level 42 and Black Uhuru. Flushed by a steady flow of session work, particularly with Level 42, with whom he also produced, he opened his own studio in Nassau, Bahamas. He subsequently composed film scores, the best known of which is Kiss Of The Spider Woman. Here his expressive use of synthesizers belied the instrument's reputation for frigidity by invoking the warmth of his African heritage and Caribbean home with easy, rhythmic passages. These happy musical narratives were further expressed on two albums recorded for Island Records in the late 80s, although the second of these showed his classical background and had a slightly more restrained mood.

I remember seeing him perform with Level 42 around 82-83 at the Brixton Academy (when they were a proper jazz funk band) - I was still a young school kid & they just blew me away.
Them early fourth & broadway releases (chief inspector & novela das nove) still sound great.
