THAN TO BEAT AND CRACK THE SKULL OPEN OF A NINETIEN YEAR OLD LAST NIGHT AT 51ST & COTTAGE GROVE?
ON THE WAY HOME FROM A SESSION THAT DIDN'T GO SO WELL AT THE LAST MINUTE BECAUSE OF A COMPUTER GLITCH, (WIPED MY WHOLE SESSION OUT) AND AS I WAIT AT THE BUS STOP, I WITNESS TWO BROTHA'S ASK SOMEONE ACROSS THE STREET SOMETHIN' AND I GUESS THE BROTHA GOT MAD AND KICKED THE WINDOW OF THE BUS SHELTER. THEM WALKIN ACROSS THE STREET TO MY SIDE IT APPEARD THAT HE WAS ASKIN ME SOMETHIN, SO I TURNED OFF MY HEADFONES TO SEE WHAT HE WANTED, ONLY TO BE GREETED BY THE "WHAT THE FUCK YOU LOOKIN AT" SPEECH, SO I JUST SAT THERE AND WATCHED HIM AND HIS FRIEND GO BY, SO HE DECIDES TO APPROACH REAL LOUD IN ANGER TO BERATE ME, (NOW MIND YOU, I'M ALREADY PISSED AS HELL BEFORE THEY SHOWED UP) I CONTINUALLY TELL THE YOUNG BROTHA THAT I'M NOT GONNA FIGHT HIM AND HE GET'S MORE IRRITATED, NOW BY THIS TIME HIS FRIEND IS HOLDIN HIM BACK, HE WANTED TO FIGHT ME SOO BAD, AT THAT POINT I GOT UP AND WALKED AWAY TO CATCH THE BUS THAT I WAS WAITING ON, OH, I FLAGGED "5.0" AND SENT THEM IN THEIR DIRECTION AND THEY CAUGHT ONE OF THEM AS I GOT ON THE BUS. I WALKED AWAY BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME ANGER THAT WAS BUILDIN UP INSIDE OF ME, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED INSTANTLY. IT'S ASHAME TO SEE SUCH A YOUNG LIFE THAT MAD AT THE WORLD AND DUDE WAS ONLY A FRAIL 5 FT 10! ALTHOUGH FOR SOME REASON OR ANOTHER, I NOTICED THE BLOOD COMING DOWN THE SIDE OF HIS FRIEND'S FACE.....ANYWAY, I THANKED JEHOVAH GOD FOR HELPING ME TO WALK AWAY AND NOT BE APART OF POSSIBLY TAKING ANOTHER LIFE IF I CAN HELP IT.
AND BELIEVE ME, NO LOVE LOST FOR HIM, JUST SORROW...

You were/are indeed the bigger man for walking away. As a result of you walking away, I don't have to possible read of your untimely demise in the Chicago Defender, or read about two 'alledged' gang-bangers shot death, beat to death, etc..
He who takes the high road
And walks away
Lives to write about it

You definitely did the right thing.
If you had got into a fight, either you or him would have regretted it later.
To show self-control and not rise to the bait, especially when you are already angry, shows more strength than giving in to your primal instincts to fight.
OK so it may be risky (you didn't know what he was going to do) but at least you came away from it with no harm done on either side.
you should have cracked his skull open

people have no respect for others these days. Sometimes that's good in theory but.... This brings to mind an episode that happened to me last winter. After leaving a concert, I was driving home pass a bunch of drunk white kids (in their twenties) out just having fun when one (for no apparent reason) picks up a snowball and just throws it at my windshield. I had a steering wheel lock in the back seat and it took every ounce of strength for me not to stop the car and beat the !@#$ out of him. I felt violated because the anger that built up would not have allowed me to stop punishing him. With 7 of his friends standing there, I would have been carted off to jail, charged with assault and by the time they got their legal team together, they would have sworn up and down that no snowball was thrown at my car and that I started the incident. I hated the fact that I kept driving but it was the best thing to do because it could have really turned out bad.

Would have taken the steering wheel lock to THEM without fear of prosecution?? Only white kids and their "legal teams" change stories, right? And white or black, would you really have stopped to take on 8 people? Think about what you just posted.......JMJ

The point being, if you are in a fit of rage its better to think things through. I certainly wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt, especially young kids just out to have fun. Unfortunately, you always have someone in the group that makes it bad for everyone. That night I just happened to be driving through a upscale white neighborhood. I really didn't care at the time that I was outnumbered (I looked at them more as witnesses). Anybody can distort the facts. Taking it a step further, I'm sure noone in the group would have singled out their friend as the instigator.

I think he was simply clarifying for the story's integrity. No hard feelings.

On another note, it's ALWAYS better to walk away if you're able. It is the most diffuclt thing to do when you're in the moment of rage. The power is with those who have the inner strength to take a step back at times like these and see the situation for what it really is.

Well, I wouldnt have called 5 time!
Its best to walk away, or you'd be like me
awaiting a court date for charges that's anothers
fault(but your fault too).....

Why waste a minute of your life on someone like this. If you'd hit him, it probably would have been more about the bad session than his bad mouth.
No one likes to be talked to like that, but sometimes ignoring someone is the best revenge in the world. He was trying to get a rise out of you. He didn't. Maybe next time he won't bother.

Thing is in this day and age its never about a straight up fight.....you could of kicked his ass and walked away only to get a bullet in your back........you deffo did the right thing.
you could of been wounded maybe worse and he could be in jail now facing who knows what?
cheers

AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT, "THAT BAD SESSION" WHICH WAS MORE REASON FOR ME TO WALK AWAY. THERE MAY NOT BE A NEXT TIME FOR HIM IF HE DOES IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. HEY HK, I KNOW IT AIN'T ALWAYS COOL TO CALL "5.0", BUT WHAT IF IT WERE A SENIOR CITIZEN OR SOMEONE THAT WE KNEW THAT REALLY COULDN'T DEFEND THEMSELVES? ISN'T IT BETTER FOR THE POLICE TO STOP THEM IN THEIR TRACKS BEFORE THEY DO DESTROY SOMEONE ELSE'S DAY OR LIFE????
