Not to stir things up but if Dru Sjodin was black or hispanic would any of this hype be going on? I would never want to take away from these families tragedy. And having a daughter I am horrified to think what they are going through. But I have to believe that there are girls of every race missing daily. It appears the media just follows these stories when the the girl-next-door type is missing.

Exactly. When was the last time you heard anything about the two little girls from Chicago who have been missing damn near 3 years now?

I agree. Before the Laci/Scott Peterson case, a latina woman and her 3 y/o son was found floating in the bay. That story lasted two days in the media. How awful is that!

This has sadly always been the case in the US. It disgusts me. And if the girl is blonde? Forget about it - it's front page news every damn day. Same goes for murders. That chick who got taken by that weird bearded "drifter" guy in the Northwest was a classic example of this.

...but you're right. it still remains unsolved and unexplored really :(

This all harkens back to the same night the infamous Central Park Jogger incident took place and took over the news media - that very same night a black woman was thrown off a roof to her death in Harlem - only that was not worthy of the coverage that the Central Park Jogger case received. I believe the case was eventually solved but that too never got any noteworthy coverage. Women of color do not matter in this society, unless of course there is work to be done...

When I was living in NY there was the "Upper East Rapist" in the news damn near everyday. They had loads of detectives on the case and tons of news coverage. All the rape victims were, if I am not mistaken, white. Up in the Bronx, there had been a serial rapist terrorizing women and girs for like 5 or more years. My daugther's mother said one of the victims, a 13 year old girl, was a family friend. The cops and detectives were on the case for like a second. No news coverage, no investigation, no interviews, nothing. Forgotten.
