how does the dj reintroduce peaks and valleys into sets, to the audience, in a way where they don't leave the dance floor?

many of the DJs that have been around for a while, I have heard complain about this. they long for a time when you could do the whole up and down thing instead of playing at energy level 11 the whole time during the peak hours.

and it seems that audience is very fickle these days. they are on the floor on a song by song basis. don't like 1 song? they are gone.

so with that pressure, how do you re-introduce peaks and valleys to today's club-goers?

They should never have been made to feel like they wasn't introduced to it in the first place.

Being clever and bending the audience in the direction with a more obvious song which may be slower/faster to get them on the floor initially.

Don't try and do it all in one huge leap, get em dancing first and then slowly change what your doing, they then find themselves dancing to what they wouldn't have got outta their chair for, then each week from then it will become easier.
