i love gospel music. moving stuff if you open up to it. i also love the catholic vespers masses...
spiritual tunes...it's all beautiful if you open up a little.
edit: hahaha...i didn't answer the question. um, no you can't. if you do like it, you do believe, but just don't wish to admit it.

I love the 'spiritualness' of gospel... I love the fact that the singers really feel what they're singing with their whole soul... powerful...
Plus... a lot of things they sing about, I relate to (needing to pray, feel connected, surrendering...) it's just the Christianity that I don't identify with... so yes, you can enjoy the music... smile.gif

I don't believe in religion. I respect those who do though. I think it can be a useful tool for control of self when it is beyond that persons control. Like if a person has an addiction that they cannot shake. or for a comfort factor as a faith maybe to get over a death for example. I don't believe that it should be imposed on others. Some want to force feed their beliefs on others and call it shareing. They do this on a different level in some countries. I have never killed, raped or cheated someone and I am not a christian nor a satanist. I don't know WHAT I "am",all I know is THAT "I am". Maybe I WILL go to Hell with fire and brimstone with St. Peter at the golden gates telling me "hell no you ain't gettin in here". I just find it hard to believe, that's all. Peace.

Hmmm....how's this one..
I personally don't believe in "organized" religion, yet i still write gospel songs. "Call" and "Joy to the world" are examples. Now do i believe in God? I don't know....So then how can you write about it you say? Well...I was brought up and educated through an organisational system. I went off a bit on the scientific side of things because of my disenchantment with the corporate structure that my religion is known to have and yet they prey on the unsuspecting all in the name of God. Religion shouldn't be a money making machine ala Creflo Dollar....but i've also learned that you can't disclaim anything because you can't see it and we all at times need something to believe in. So my writing is an almost desperate grasp at trying to fix the batttle that has raged inside of me since i was a so-called "brainwashed" youngster in parochial school. That's why you'll never really hear the term "God" in any of my songs...I kinda just want you to know what i'm talking about without having to directly refer to it. I leave it up to you to make up whatever meaning you want to think it is and how it relates to you. So yeah you don't have to be a believer of religion to like or even write Gospel music....but ....you do have to have something inside of you that's hitting that emotional chord of your personl beliefs, whether Muslim, Baptist, Jewish, Catholic, Pentecostal or whatever...It's hitting something that you can't quite ignore otherwise you wouldn't be digging it.
just my 2 cents
peace

I'm not a religious person when it comes to going to church, praying, lighting candles and all ritual-based stuff, but I am a spiritual person, feeling deep love, joy, sadness, etc, so I can relate to gospel house because it has this same feeling of deep love for someone or something. I'm not sharing Gods, I'm sharing love and passion.
