Wha Sup KaRizMa!! Good to see you get your cyberspace on!!
For me...damn...now that I think about it....it's a tough question. Because, before I started to spin...I was hitting some sock-hops @ Chi-town high schools & colleges and lots of great music was being played!
If I had to single one tune out.....Patrice Rushen "Forget Me Nots" & Junior..."Mama Use To Say"
Welcome Again Bro!!

Looks like two questions are being asked!
Growing up in Chicago...One would only need listen to the radio and had a love for music to want to start putting together the mix! You kinda just fell into it! It was all around you! (or around me at least) Farley "Jackmaster" Funk & Ron Hardy, & the Hot Mix crew helped enormously.

Marv Wholeheartedly agree. The WBMX jocks were the ones who did it for me, not just one particular track.

I cannot pinpoint it.So many memories and moments. No one song will do it.I will say that radio had a strong influence on me.I actually wanted to be a radio dj,before I got into mixing.
WKKC,WBMX,WHPK,the all disco station,106.3,where Herb Kent used to do the punk-out show, influenced me strongly as a kid/pre-teen.
minimalistic? LOL Lookn in Websters for that one LOL
I do respect him Kariz... he is a great radio personality I like his show better than that sorry 92 Q Im speaking strickly rhythm *wink* oriented

KBig & Karizma,
Stop making all that noise in here!!LOL!!
What did it for me was my uncle and his basement parties @ my house while he was attending Morgan State University. The DJ(didn't know thats what he was @ the time) was playing Inner Life "Caught up in a one night love affair" and I would watch as people would really "feel" this record and I thought "I wish I could make people feel like that!! And there you have it. As far as House was hearing Serious Intentions' "You Don't Know" on that Massive Odells Sound System. KBig knows what I'm talking about!! :D
LOL @ Biskit
Bmore in the hizzle fa shizzle
Odells hail.gif aaahhh how I miss walkn out of that place 6 in the morning and shouting cause I couldnt hear my own voice!

but by that time..it was too late! WKKC was canceled
LOL I know LOL Kariz aka UnRuly Rudy! LOL
but that gives him SUCH an advantage. He hears break beats that ordinary house DJ's would miss.
Remember Spen was in the hip hop group The NuMarks First! He has the same edge as well!

graemlins/respekt.gif Edge? Spen....the only thing that boy (pun)is missing is his robe when spinning!! That's Mr. Gospel Himself!! I've always admired his abilities and how he keeps it humble! But..let's not front....He's a damn demon on the 1,2,3!! and The Unruly Rudy isn't far behind!! graemlins/rofl5.gif
So easy a protic can do it (QUAD)

I remember in 1984, going to a back-to-school party at the Beverly House on 103rd. Watching Lil John cut up on two 12s of 'Music is the Answer'- Col Abrams. He wasn't elevated in a booth, his gear was down on the floor with the crowd so I could see up front, him working them tables.
A lot of people hate on that brother but I just remember that moment where I caught the bug and I started djing/collecting ever since.
