It's a catchall fake name used by a director/writer/producer etc. when they want to take their name off of a film project.

OK Y'ALL, IF ANYONE IS INTO AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS, ONE OF THE FACTS KNOWN IS THAT EVERY DIRECTOR THAT EVER MADE A TERRIBLE MOVIE AND DIDN'T WANT THEIR NAMES ATTATCHED TO THE MOVIE IN THE CREDITS, THEY ALL USED "DIRECTED BY ALLAN SMITHEE". On a side note:

I've also had the oppurtunity to meet alot of cool cats named Chad. The first Chad I met was my next door neighbor in Arizona. He'd always let me borrow his "diamond back" racin bike. The second Chad I met was my "recreational items" contact. He was known for the kindness . The third Chad is the owner of Ultrasound records. S.A.R. would'nt BE without all the help Chad has given us. Are you this Chad?
