my old PC died on my a few months back and I finally got a new one.

I had been using an Event "Layla" 20 bit sound card and breakout box that I've had for probably 10 years or so...

My new machine is running vista. When I tried to install the sound card last night I went to the Event website and found out that they don't have a driver update to Vista for this product, probably because it's so old that no one is using it anymore....

This was an 8 in 8 out box but I don't really need all that. Just 2 in and 2 out to record mixes and do edits.

I use Sound Forge but i'm now thinking of buying a bundle with a sound card/breakout and Pro Tools.... I see they have a M Audio box and Pro Tools 7.0 for around $250.

Any suggestion on what I should look for????

Any help is much appreciated... like I said it's been about 10 yrs since I've been in the market for something like this.

I've known nothing but MOTU since Mackie sold out to China.

Does MOTU have an inexpensive sound card/breakout that would suit my needs?

MOTU is all about audio interfaces. A step above any sound card you plug into a PC IMHO.

some friends and i did a big recording session over a motu ultralite tonite, but it is not necessary to use such a beast. we simply had a lot of instruments to track simultaneously

presonus, edirol, etc offer very usable 2 channel i/o external usb and firewire units. Spend around 200 and you are good to go.
