It isnt a policy exclusive to Shelter. Alot of clubs in Miami dont allow it either.

One place I visited in Los Angeles has an agreement between the club owner and the promoter as to who can take pictures. Not knowing that got me in some hot water with the promoter when she saw me taking many pictures. She was cool with me using the photos for my web site, just not take anymore. I decided not to use them since she had that agreement.

With the anti-rave law just passed, photos can show show incriminating evidence if gotten into the "wrong" hands (people doing drugs, playing with glowsticks, etc.) that can get the promoter, DJ, club owner, and anyone else involved in the event into deep trouble. A high profile club like Shelter would be an easy target for any one who wanted to bring harm to Shelter's reputation.

Also, simply, a flash in a very dark place doesn't bode well for your eyes!!!

Just some thoughts,

But, like any other special place I go, I like to capture the moment. Also, so many people here in Ireland want me to keep in contact and email them pics from the 22 hour party. But as long as Im there......Im not really bothered about pictures. I thought that it was interesting, also, to hear that Shelter is not the only club to enforce this law!!!! I thought it was exclusive to Shelter. Peace.

"Hey Daddy (or Mommy), what's this a picture of?"

"That's me and a couple of friends at a place called the Shelter in New York City."

"Wow, I would like to go there someday. It looks like alot of people are having a good time!!"

A precious moment between a parent and their children to never to happen because we can't take pictures. Well atleast we can tell a story.

hoo hummmmmm

1) Owners may think you may capture incriminating evidence, and may be liable.

and more important:
2) The possibility of making profits from photos without the club's authorization. If you make money off the photos, the club has to (and should) get a cut.

and to add, when you take pictures of individual persons, every last person in that photo has to grant the use of their image (in writing). Not doing that could lead to a whole lot of liability problems for the club. Peace.

It is in the interest of any business to control its public image. This includes photos.

My girl carries a mini for places like this. You gotta be stealth.

I disagree with the no camera thing. It's gay.

There are some nights that are pro-photos. I love seeing Adam Gibbons photos of the nights he's involved in in Boston. It definitely enhances the experience to be able to look at them week to week. Also liked the Body and Soul photos.

How would y'all like if someone took a picture of you without your consent?

I played for a TV show a while back. This week, I got the release form from the producer, allowing her to use my image. Anyone who takes photos has to get the consent of the persons being photographed. Peace.

I've seen some of these photogs get into a real hissy when someone say I don't want my picture taken or if the person yells at them for taking there picture.

The other thing is, I hate it when you are grooving, in a real music zone, you go to bust a move and all of a sudden this bright ****ing flash of the camera is jolting you from that great nirvana of a place you were in....just because some tourist **** wanna go back home and say "look where I was".

I have no problem with group shots in or outside on the club, but not some stealth type snapping on the dancefloor when folks are not caring what they look like and then next thing you know they are putting your image through photoshop and passing it around the internet without your permission. WTF is that!!

Keep your ****ing cameras for BBQs and family events, not the club where we let our hair down.

Well I must confess that I have brought cams to clubs, not often though. Being I live in Baltimore and that most of my friends live in the NY/NJ area, sometimes these might be the only times that we get to see each other on my quick trips, so I might take THEIR snapshots but I dont arbitrarily take pics of people I dont know (except I must confess I did take some pics of Stacey Kidd dancing at the Clevelander at the WMC- dayum that boy can dance!)or "touristy" type pics of the interior of some club. My pictures are personal keepsakes I would never post them on some site or give them out to others.

There seemed to be some tension in the air when that happened because I saw you walk by with the bouncers towards the office and I remember specifically getting this vibe that I should just keep an eye out to see if there was gonna be any "drama" in the office, to see if you came out the same way you went in etc....

Its definitely not just a Shelter thing, when coming to the states you would be safer in just assume you can't bring cameras, nail clippers, writing utensils, pen knives etc to the club.... basically bring ya ass, your clothes, your money and your ID....
