a. which women in the US do you think are over represented in the lower economic bracket?

b. so if we all poor then we all get the same sexist bullsh*t thrown in our faces regardless of race or colour - is this what you are saying? pls correct me if i've misread your post.

mhd, it's a different world from where i'm at. there's no self loathing going on at this end, not the kind you're playing at (different history, different conditioning, different culture, my man). what sets people like the two of us apart outweighs that which we have in common by far. that we both happen to be some sort of black is incidental.

peace. ngeso.

oh, it's sunday evening where i'm at. just to prove a point ;)

I interpreted Ngeso's response differently. Yes "black" people all over the world may have some things in common, what irks me is reading sweeping generalizations about Black people that don't take into account the differences. Then again skin colour has never been the main reason I've bonded with anyone.
It seems to me that when people agree with some Black is best statement all is well but if a person happens not to agree with the "black" lean of an argument then all of a sudden, "they don't get it?"

mhd, it's a different world from where i'm at. there's no self loathing going on at this end, not the kind you're playing at (different history, different conditioning, different culture, my man). what sets people like the two of us apart outweighs that which we have in common by far. that we both happen to be some sort of black is incidental.

oh, it's sunday evening where i'm at. just to prove a point ;) our differences only set us apart if we let them, peace, enjoy the last precious remnants of the weekend </font>
That's obvious MHD.
I interpreted Ngeso's response differently. Yes "black" people all over the world may have some things in common, what irks me is reading sweeping generalizations about Black people that don't take into account the differences. Then again skin colour has never been the main reason I've bonded with anyone.
It seems to me that when people agree with some Black is best statement all is well but if a person happens not to agree with the "black" lean of an argument then all of a sudden, "they don't get it?" </font>
really would not expect you to get it. </font>
biggrinangel.gif

have to get back in on this.

Q 1: do the 15 or so listed 'facts' in the initial post bear any relevance for people who do not subscribe to a black-american-pride-sentiment?

Q 2: if the answer to the above is "yes", who decides on this and by what accordance?

peace. ngeso.

peace. ngeso. decides on what? relevance? relevance is relative. why are you twisting the original post?

i'm not twisting the original post.

it's there, though, and now that it has been established that some people don't get some stuff that other people do get, i'd appreciate some pointers as to whether one (i.e. myself) is expected to acknowledge or disregard this topic in other instances than the humourous one (which i do read into it). if you're inferring that i'm insensitive to a particular agenda, i'd like to know why i'm supposed to be sensitive to it.

my original reaction to the 15-point-catalogue comes due to my inability to identify with a lot of the implications embedded within that catalogue. again, it is a cultural and a political thing. the race aspect is not of near as much importance (IMO).

peace. ngeso. acknowledge or disregard as you see fit. you can be sensitive or not, we are used to opposition and indifference.
for us its cultural, political and racial, in fact, there is no difference between the three.

they are slogans, affirmations if you will, and there is a strong, proud, beautiful history attached to this form of dialogue. you don't have to get it, in her brilliance, dee even apologized in advance, something i would never do, btw. if you want to learn more, here is your chance. if you want to denigrate, here is your chance

what can i say? since you (or we) have established, that there are differences after all - and as far as i am concerned these differences are squarely cultural and political, and not racial - i acknowledge your invitation.

peace. ngeso.

peace. ngeso. </font>
ironic that you are able to recognize variable and distinct black experiences in one sentence and deny their very existence in the next. or am i missing something?

nonsense. you said "for us its cultural, political and racial, in fact, there is no difference between the three". i am not "for us". i disagree on the terms you proscribe. there's nothing ironic about that, unless you claim that you are better suited to determine how black i'm supposed to be before myself. you think that because i don't toe the party line it automatically amounts to denial.

the thing is, while i understand and respect your history, tradition and culture to be a source of pride and joy and beauty, there is nothing that universally compels me to feel the same way.

peace. ngeso. obviously we are misunderstanding each other. i have absolutely no interest in telling you how to think about yourself, i have no interest in telling you how to think about your own 'blackness". i am not asking you to toe any party line, was not aware that there was a party line. as far as my history and culture is concerned i agree that there is nothing compelling you to do anything. people all over the world, of all stripes have found comfort joy and strength from this culture, if you do not, fine. in no way am i trying to convince you of anything
