I was just sitting back thinking about the shoes I had to wear back in the day. Sadly, I was not a child that had the latest Nike shoes or Puma's or what not. I was a Payless baby. Pro Wings were the shoes of the day (and they did last about a day, too). I fell on my arse so many times, those things had absolutely NO traction. Then came the time when I moved up a notch on the shoe scale and got me some hi-top British Knights. These things were horribly large (and me being size 12 didn't help matters). I think I still have them out somewhere in the porch as they have been turned to "ghetto sandals." Aaaah, those were the days.

I used to wear Pro Keds in junior high. That was before it was cool to wear hi-tops. Wore hi-tops in high school. The Pro Keds I wore were suede, so your white socks turned the same color as your shoes after playing in them for 3 or 4 hours......JMJ :D

I remember when they first dropped.I had the all white ones.I hooked them up with two different color laces, spiderweb style, with the excess being tubed up.

I got props on them, til those damn air jordans dropped.Folks tripped on me hard.I never onwed a pair of jordans, folks were getting killed for them, when I was a teen.

I know rich folks who are paid and dress like bums when they are casual, while some of the poorest folks have the latest gear on.

Some folks think spending loot on material things make the person. The only thing they make the person out to be is a fool.

It was really rough, especially in the winter when you had to walk home in nothing but socks. I never got bothered cuz who the hell wants some cheap ass Pro-Wings?

I only owned one pair of Jordans and those where the first ones because I was a size 6 and they were only $69 dollars. After that my parents where not going to spend over a $100 for some gym shoes.

I had Pro Wings... There was no traction because it was that HARD plastic rubber soles. I had the running shoe type. graemlins/rofl.gif

I never had British Knight shoes..., but speaking of Faux things did anyone used to rock "Knights of the Round Table" (Fake Ralph Lauren)? I have to admit I did own a couple of them. graemlins/rofl.gif graemlins/rofl.gif

yall got me thinking back now. One time during that period, some folks from the Miller projects broke into a train cart and stole a whole bunch of Ralph Lauren shirts. The almost the whole middle school and high school was walking around in those shirts.

When the trains use to stop. The folks from the projects would go and break into the train. Trains had to have helicopter escorts when they got by the projects.

Anybody remember British Walkers when they first came out?

I can remember wanting a pair and I kept asking...no, begging my moms to get them. The answer was always 'No, kids are gettin killed behind those shoes'. Finally, one Christmas, she said she had a surprise...she said she finally got me my British!!! So she gives me the box and I noticed it didn't have the British Walker emblem on it. So I open the box, and it's a FAKE pair of British. I guess the smile totally disappeared off of my face and she asked 'What's wrong?' I'm like Ma, these are fake British; I can't wear these, they're all gonna laugh...of course she made me wear them and I got clowned ridiculously for rockin' turtle-toe British!!!

And to make matters worse, they came with a pair of FAKE Pro-Keds.

Ahhh...the good ole days...

I remember there was a shoe name that we all wore back in Chicago early house days.

We used to wear tight coldaroids with <these shoes> and no sox. I want to say Coasters but i cannot say they were that brand for sure.

And if your pants were highwaters someone would tell you to pull your shoes up, but then I had some friends who wore their pants high so they could rock their K-Swiss, or Elleses, or however you spell them. They were the shoes with that half orange on the heel.

The ironic thing was that, when I got a bit older, the SUPER cool kids--some bullies and some hustlers--in my area were actually wearing ProWings.

No Pro Wings but

1981 - '82: strictly K-Swiss the quintessential L.A. shoe, Fila BJ warm ups-kids were rockin' these when Fila was a $600 sweatsuit, this was when pro tennis players wore them, before the exclusivity went away from Fila. Nieman Marcus corduroy caps, busters wore the knock offs with the crossed golf clubs.

1983 - '84: Sperry Top Sider or penny loafers (preppy at the Playground), Addidas Top Tens.

1985 - '87: strictly ZODIAC, Tretorn, Converse Chucks (Muzic Box!), Reebok high top basketball kicks (Box also especially when rocked with Chicago Black Hawks jersey), Kenneth Cole.

:( I don't recall gloves, but I did have some of those heat sensitive shirts. Mine was green and would turn orange if someone placed their hand on it. It sucked cuz it did not work well after washing.

On the real, Pro Wings are the reason now why I do not wear gym shoes... I was scarred as a child. I recently bought my first pair of gym shoes in like 20yrs a couple of months ago... (FUBU)Last time my mother bought me a pair, we were at K-Mart. I was excited to have a new pair of shoes and decided to wear them out of the store... It was raining outside and I fell on my ass racing my sister to the car. As I sat on the ground in the pouring rain I swore on everything I loved I would never wear another pair of cheap gym shoes...

for as far as i remember, i usually got only the no-name velcro sneakers for ages but by the time 6th grade came around, my parents got me PONY sneakers, which was a small step above what i usually got (until some made fun of the PONY aconym as "Pi** On New York")...then i started getting Pumas back when kmart used to sell them and i used to love those especially the ones done all in black...when the summer of 1986 rolled around, i was esctatic into reaching a coming of age with a pair of Adidas (not the shell toe ones) in which "my adidas" rang all over my head...

anyone remember that British Knights commercial with the slogan "i spend my days in British Knights"?
