View Full Version : Is Our Knowledge Of Fine Dining That Bad???

Yo, y'all,

I once made some suggestions about NYC restaurants to a friend of mine. She was very thankful for the suggestions, and was suprised. Why? Because I was one of the few brothas she knew that "knew more than just BBQ's and Red Lobster".

To the ladies. Is it that bad with us brothas? Do all we know about dining is BBQ's and Red Lobster? I know of, and have been to, many good restaurants in NYC, and I will say that I don't have that problem, so stop stereotyping.

To the fellas. Pleeeeeeeaaaaaase. Expose your woman to some fine dining. Your woman deserves better. I'm not hating on BBQ's or Red Lobster, but be in the know, and start treatin' your woman to something else. If you are on budget, there are plenty of places (at least in NYC) where there's fine dining and nice settings at inexpensive prices. Oh, yeah, and pick up Zagat and Time Out Eating And Drinking guides. And don't be afraid to explore. Peace.

Personally I find eating out to be highly over rated. I much prefer food cooked by family and friends ...
Ehhh ... okay, I just don't like dining out.

Ehhh ... okay, I just don't like dining out. So do I. I come from a family that loves to eat, whether out or in (home made roast duck and shrimp parmigagna on Thanksgiving).

I'm just talking about when folks do go out. I get complaints from women that men don't have good taste when it comes to dining (or cooking at home).

I can already see where this one is headed. We'll get a 5+ page diatribe on the eating habits of white and black people and racism in the restaurant industry. Continue.

You have to be open to experiencing new things...

when I visited NY I ate so much authentic japanese food...I am hooked

I also ate at an Ethiopian Restaurant that was different but tasty...I did happen to order a dish that I enjoyed...

but just like music you have to be open to the experience of something outside of your norm...

See that's my problem. I willing to cook, or take a lady out to a nice restaurant (no buffets) but these chicks down here are so simple, that it gets on my nerves.

You mean the chicks only settle for BBQs Red Lobster and Sizzler (remember Kadeem Hardisson in "White Man Can't Jump graemlins/rofl.gif )?

THREE FOR ONE DURING HAPPY HOUR!!! At every spot on Bourbon. I'm chuggin' three Coronas (or three Margauritas) for $5. Just as drunk as I wanna be. Peace.

Miami drink prices are worse.

I asked a waiter in Miami why the tip is always added at restaurants and he said b/c they have so many European tourists and others (South America) that are not used to tipping, they add the tip automatically...same thing with drinks. So keep in mind while in Miami to not double tip!

If my husband or I don't cook, we like to go to a very good restaurant. Most of the time we enjoy Mexican, Italian or Cajun when we dine out. Now if the crumbsnatchers go, we go to a non-expensive restaurant.

I had a Frozen Martini at a restaurant with dinner and it came to $25 just for me.

Chicago's prices are just as bad. A corona and coke here could run about 8 - 10 dollars here also, depending what part of the city you are in. Remember property taxes for the establishment will impact the prices for dining in certain areas of a city.

This reminds me of a little joke my hubby cracked once. He affected the voice of a 'round the way sista talking to her girl: "..Girl, you know I HAD to go 'head and give him some...girl, he took me to HOUSTON'S!"...

All those options sound better than complaining and still eating bad food. ;)

Last time I was in NY, I had the best jerk chicken patty I've ever tasted. All I remember was that I was in Jamaica Queens. There's an Uno's Pizza in NY too (I think in the Village). That was good, but the original in Chicago is still the best. My favorite restaurant in Chicago closed down last year. It was the Louisiana Kitchen on 2616 N. Halsted. Their food was so good it'll make you slap yo mama. But since they've closed, I'd have to say that Flattop Grill is my favorite. House of Blues has really good food too. House of Bing on 69th South Shore Dr. is really good. I could go on, but I'd sound like a glutton. ;)
