Guilty or not, if the police decide your a bit shifty, they'll keep a record of your fingerprints and DNA.

****ers have had my fingerprints for years.

Mother****ers ain't gonna take my DNA, although that is probably easier than getting finger prints

erm not that I'm worried, but how long ago did they start to take DNA from crime scenes? Just wondering what the back-catchment odds are, because really if the old bill can, on a whim, take DNA samples, surely they can round up all the people they ave suspected for years, and find them guilty with matching DNA profiles.
**** me the prisons are full as it is.

They have to arrest you before they will take your DNA. Doesn't matter if you're subsequently cleared, though. No wonder the police are so keen: they can keep an eye on that c*nt who they *know* did it, but couldn't quite convict on the day.

I wonder if this is due to the war / terrorism threat due to the ammount of immigrants UK has at this time. Think of the main reason why they wanted to introduce ID cards like the US, or driving licenses with a photograph on.

we're facing the same kind of limitations to our personal freedom here in the netherlands.

dna databanks and the obligation to be able to show an id at any possible time.

people feel less safe, and therefore demand appropriate actions by politicians, to create more security.

where [in our country at least] the center of gravity lied at the protection of the innocent [better 10 criminals out on the street, then one innocent person in jail], it's now shifting towards all criminals in jail, even if it might mean that you'll end up with one or two innocent people in jail.

It's to prevent fraudulent mutliple applications. And, presumably, to combat terrorism. It's all in recent changes to the system. More info here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/in_depth/uk/2002/destination_uk/application.stm). To be honest, I don't know if that information is destroyed when an application is successful - I'd hope so. I checked the recent Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Bill, but my head goes numb reading that kind of thing.

Now, hundred yards away they have opened a Immigrants Phychology Unit, that's a new one on me.
