[DJ76]

I said it this week-end and I'll write it here: it is incredible to to travel across the world and be able to find amazing people like the crazy bunch I met last night at the DHP reunion, makes you feel like the family has no boundaries.

Four observations before I start: (1) Jeremy is the gospel, (2) Red D is mad (3) Martin Red should be allowed to open Kinkey-UK and (4) belgian girls are pretty.
I will not elaborate on the last point ;)

So I arrive in Deinze at around noon yesterday and Tom picks me up from the station (he later asked me 100 Euro for the lift, apparently the gas price is unbelievably high in Belgie! or so he says smile.gif ). We arrive at Jockey, the location where it was all about to happen. I really like this idea of a bbq with a pool in a pretty big field, big enough to be able to play freesbie intensively. The campers (Lyot, David le C, Tom D, etc.) were slowly waking up when I arrived. The weather was really nice, actually it was so damn hot, you couldn't resist jumping in the pool. For some reason, Jeremy resisted longer than most of us, we later found out that it was related to his obsession of water guns.

The djs that we are couldn't wait to start spinning and defied the 2 o'clock start time... I mean, the decks are there, the records are there, why should we wait? Lyot, David, myself and Tom D started playing in the afternoon followed by two djs I can't recall the names of. I won't start naming what each and everyone played but it was very varied. Lyot made me discover some nice italo-disco tracks, I'm not very familiar with that style. Tom D was dropping the funk ("Mesopotamia" graemlins/thumbsup.gif ) and David played a nice variation of sounds... I just played "Far out" over and over :D

By that time, everyone was enjoying the weather, the pool and the food (good job on that one guys, the food was delicious, that potatoe salad..... hmmmmm.... echt lekker!). Also at that time, I was starting to realise initial observation number 4 graemlins/rofl.gif

Kinky-UK started playing inside 9ish, delivering a nice 80s set. Who said the 80s were cheesy? Pfffff... the man's got mad knowledge and mixing skills. I also like the way he sports his headphones, a photo will be made public if the confidentiality is unsealed. On the other hand, Mad D uses his headphones to hold his hair. Martin played a version of "West End Girls" I had never heard of before, wicked.

The gospel stepped up 12ish. Whooooooaaaaaa! I'll let others describe how he ripped us apart, mad mixing + severe knob-isitis = crowd going into a frenzy. My favorite mix: Let's get jazzy + You can't hide from yourself (how long did he ride both????). Of course a Salsoul or two had to be part of the set, Ain't no mountain was definitely a highlight. My memory is failing right now though, so I won't go into details. Reason is: I haven't slepped still - believe it guys, my train got delayed (had to actually take a freaking hot sweaty bus from Rosendaal to Rotterdam graemlins/cussing.gif ), I arrive in Den Haag 5 hours after leaving Deinze instead of 3.... and still no bedtime for moi!).

After the gospel, Red D the mad scientist made the place explode (as if it needed more... sure it did :D ) - very Ron Hardy-ish if I may say so (but he didn't start with "Welcome to the pleasuredome", he he). I forget the name of the last dj from Kinky that played a nice deep techno set, loved it.

The party ended at around 7am with Mad D dropping "Magic number" (promo extended mix I hadn't heard before) by Herbie Hancock.

I hadn't slept much the night before, so how did I make it through during the course of the night? I'll let Kinky-UK fill you up on this one :D

All of you boys and girls, it was a pleasure to meet you. A big fat "bravo" to Kinky people for organizing this. Red D, Tom and the rest of you, kudos for the organization, this party was a SUCCESS! Lyot, glad we finally met bro, and the same goes for the rest of the peeps I met.

i'm still totally energyless after two days of "Summer Vibes"..But damn, looking back at it, I can only say this was to me the best party 2003 had to offer...

Friday night -the prelude- was cool, but it wasn't a big party..Tom D & David Le C did their jobs though and rocked the decks . A pity the audience didn't really show up that night. But that was gonna be reserved for saturday..

Since we'd stayed camping there overnight, we got woken up saturday morning by the sound of some courageous Kinky People, laying the last preparations for the afternoons swimming pool party..A big truck, parked near our tent and filled with 'plants & bushes', needed to be unloaded. Too much noise..Nearly had we stumbled out of our tents or we fell on Alex (dj 76) who had freshly arrived from Holland and who hadn't slept much neither, since he had been partying on a Dutch beach the night before.. As the sun was already burning like hell, we decided to step up the efforts to get the pool open..So at about 1PM we're playing pool games like small children, while Alex ("let us put some music on..that's what the system is for..") opened the festivities. Gradually people started to poor in and enjoy the setting (music, sun, drinks & water)..And I will repeat it.. As long as the weather is fine, Belgium is one of the best countries to live in. Even if I'm in mourning nowadays, I have to admit the number of good looking women was very high..The pictures speak for themselves by the way..

In the mean time, the UK connection (Martin & Jeremy) had also arrived..Jeremy later turned out to be an excellent sniper, targetting innocent woman with his impressive water gun.. :D

Towards the evening, the Kinky bastards nearly made us die of starvation, before serving us an incredibly good barbecue dish..The longer you wait, the better it taste.. It think that was their strategy..But it was quite an operation (BBQ for 100 peeps) and it has to be said that it was superbly organised by the Kinky crew..Respect for that.. smile.gif

By that time, we had already heard about 9 hours of straight up deephouse & disco and to be honest, I had not heard one record yet that I disliked. The sun was very exhausting though.. At one moment I thought I was heading for a sunstroke. I started panicking even more when I was playing records, and I thought that my record was melting while I played it ..(it turned out to be an illusion, of course.. :D .)..Anyway, the combination of weed, booze, sun and all these nice looking women messed with my head.. graemlins/cheering.gif

As soon as the darkness started to fall, the party moved from outdoors to indoors.. Martin Red was kicking it inside, and it was lovely to groove on all this -to me- unheard eighties cuts..It's comforting to know there's so many good stuff out I still have to discover.

Jeremy was a big unknown factor to me, and I've to admit that my head was a bit to messed up for the tunes he initially played..But after one hour he had me grooving, and I ended up under total admiration of this guys skills.. When it comes to beating a record, I think he would make most of Chicago dj's start to blush..

Red D and Ramses completed the party in a great way..By that time, I was almost completely knocked out..I'd wasted to much energy on smoking joints, chatting, dancing and looking to all the beautifull people.. So I gradually faded out and hit my sack at 5am, while the party was still going strong.. The kept it going untill 7AM, but by that time i was sleeping comfortably in my tent..

It was indeed great to meet so many wonderfull DHP people...Alex, first of all, you confirmed all the good things I have in my mind about Armenians.. ;) and I got seriously impressed by the music you played..Of all the contemporary stuff I heard, your tunes were the sweetest..

Tom D & David Le C, you guys should seriously think of becoming the Ed & Kim of the deephouse/disco scene..That back to back set was 'af' ..I suppose it was David playing 'As' ..I was just enjoying myself in the pool, and that moment I will not forget easily..Superb!

And to all the Kinky Crew people a very big cheers for organising the Summer Vibes festival..Mad respect.. But the official award for outstanding DHP merits goes to Taija, who came over from Chicago to party in Deinze..That's house !

I arrived with Karlito after a long hot car-ride at Clues, where we got our drink on. This was friday afternoon, then we hooked up with Tom D, Ellen and Red D and drove to jockeys, while Karlito was shooting innocent pedestrians with his super soaker :D
After meeting Timternet, Baileys and Pi we went to the soccer-field where the soccer-showdown was gonna take place... funny anecdote is that they were filming a movie in the immediate neighbourhood so we had to be quiet for a minute at regular intervals, try to play soccer while you have to keep quiet, it isn't easy ;)
Normally I wasn't going to play due to my knee, but I couldn't resist the occasional display of my skills graemlins/rofl.gif
In the evening the other part of my crew showed up when we were playing a bit for ourselves, Tom D and me had control of the decks, and the weed and hasj did their job.
Lyot and Tom hit the sack while we were still trying to put up the camping tent (after mucho beer and smoke this isn't the most evident thing to do ;) )
Saturday was da bomb! Being awakened by the terrible heat (can anybody say "Scorchio"?) but jumping in a supadupa fresh pool, meanwhile Alex arrived (dj 76) and he turned out to be a really cool and nice guy, who knows his music and how to party! Alex, Tom and Lyot were providing the perfect soundtrack to our pool-cocktails-blunts setting, and the crowd (and the girlzzzzz) was dripping in...
I had a really good time and I can say that I didn't hear one crappy record during this whole event, which was really a blessing.
The BBQ was great, and before that me and Tom D played a little back to back, which got lots of compliments from my crew... meanwhile Jeremy and Martin arrived and lived up to the british reputation of standing around in the sun and drinking lager.
The alcohol kept flowing and the water kept splashing, and even the british guys were poolborne ;)
The evening continued like the day started; happy people, terrific weather, extremely good music, lots of booze, lots of smokes, lots of laughter...
Jeremy and Martin rocked the decks, and Red D lived up to his reputation...
Now the shout-outs;
First of all, a tremendous big-up to the kinky people to organise this event, I know it took you guys a lot of work and stress and I wanna let you know that it's truly appreciated!
Red D, keep on rocking man, you're on a roll! Always a pleasure to see honest and sincere dj's and organisers, and you better believe we're gonna be there at CC representing!
Lyot, still the same cool cat, always a pleasure seeing you! Thx for the camping atmosphere and the same goes for Tom D, maybe the benjamin but he rocks the decks like a musical prodigy, and always up for a laugh and a smoke.
I haven't really hung out with you guys as much as I wanted to, but I had to keep my crew under control :D
Alex, really nice meeting you, hope everything works out so we can bring you over the end of october!
Jeremy, you one crazy mofo, had lots of laughs and you did a great job on the decks, it was nice meeting you...
Martin, at last we met, and I can say the pleasure was all mine, a really cool and mellow chap, who gets his party on like no other ;) keep on jacking!
And last but not least, big up to G-man and the DHP for bringing people from all over the globe together under one roof, in the house that is our music!

just realized what you said earlier, didn't hear a track that didn't please me, which is hard on an 18 hours journey. Ok perhaps that "it's yours" track I'm tired of hearing, but that was it. Excellent musical journey. And it was refreshing to meet GOOD PEOPLE. I think that's what counts the most. You can have the same setting with food, pool, music and bikinis, but if the people are shit then you're going nowhere.

There was a very decent amount of 'harmony' that day/night..That's natural result of the great efforts Kinky People have been doing the last couple of years..A great blend of all kinds of open minded people. I for one am really happy I've already been able to meet so many great people via the DHP..Not once actually I have been disappointed when I met someone I knew via DHP and there have already been so many..I often wonder if it's the music that attracts 'kind' people or whether kind people just have a destiny to listen to good music..?

Funny you say that, I never really get a tan when in Montreal, and it's not like if it's not hot during the summer in MTL, but I guess we just get too caught up with our everyday stuff that we don't take the time to relax that much. Or we just spend too much time inside, one or the other.

It has taken me two days to recover, here is my update, although most has already been said in a correct fashion, anyway..

Arrived around midday Saturday to be greeted by Red D and Jeremy at Brussels airport. The journey to Deinze was seemed short and sweet, passed a few kraftwerk men in orange, crazy guys in orange standing in the central reservation. Arrived at the party to be greeted by Tom D, Lyot and Dave Le C (happy campers), DJ76 AKA "Alex the fanny magnet" was DJing - playing lovelies in a lovely fashion. What a lovely bunch of people from the moment of arrival onwards. Talked some music drank some beer, started on the Duvel, myself and Jeremy decided to switch to some Ice T's - didn't fancy getting to wankered to early. Props to DJ76 (Alex) for riding mixes, loved Sandee's Notice me, hot to trot, love that track. Lyot man, a DJ that likes to dig in the crates - obviously, some obscure gear their my friend, presented well and found tracks to suit the atmosphere of the sunny day.

Belgium - the new Ibiza, but the English tourists are better mannered. smile.gif

Ice T was getting boring so switched to the faithful Jupiler lager which is brewed by people....., erm actually Jupiler is the lager that doesn't leave Belgium unless still in my stomach, it is similar to Stella Artois, same brewery - Inter Brew.
DJ76-Alex by this time had sold the pool idea to me, I went to get keys for Red D's car to get my shorts, he told me the location of keys but the weed made me take a wrong turn so I ended up in a kitchen to be greeted by a lady upto her elbows in potato salad - an abstract moment. I was soon in my shorts and wet, try and stop me smiling, music sun the coolness of water and lots of lovely ladies and Julpiler, does it get any better than this?. Tom D, Dave Le C rocked my swimming pool world with some great water music, no Handel, just funky summer vibes. Jeremy had joined us in the pool, and doing a good job of a water sniper on unsuspecting ladies. We played ball, twas a Beach Boys setting with no surfing.

I was impressed that when the food was served the music matched also - summer vibes, nice one Dave Le C, perfect along with the lovely food - kebabs great salad (urrrrm - potato salad) Fish, Steak, Sausage......yummy.
Some great music later, also from Dirk from Culture Club who played a few house records I had also brought with me, great minds and all that. I started playing inside the venue, kinda weird like starting again in the middle of the party, kinda threw me, but soon got into it. Again there wasn't any bad DJ's during the day or night, great variety my hands are sore from clappping clapping clapping . Jeremy played later on and as DJ76 said - very good, you can't hide from yourself blend had us thinking edit, but pure live-ness star, kept the floor rocking see. Red D played his usual belter and had me launching myself towards the stars. Much smoking drinking talking laughing later, we where still partying, met a Taja (sp?) from Chicago, lovely girl and the furthest traveler - represented.

After 18 hours at it graemlins/all_coholic.gif , I thought I may get a rest, oh no, I am in the hands of Bailey and his after party, a girl with a peachey head, Inika ? **** knows - Baileys Mews hehehe, and her sister who made some alcoholic intense cocktails, can you spell wankered, I couldn't. Bumped into Jeremy and Kinky Co later at the pool after 2 hours sleep and shortly afterwards I was on a jet plane dodging thunderclouds.

Everyone was mad cool, great hospitality, great hospital (more of that...), cool music, hot women (hmmm).

Thanks to Red D and the entire Kinky People crew for making it happen. It was very well organised, and well attended, and the quality of people was high, everyone was into quality music.

All the DJ's were great, and they all had a unique vibe, damn you guys love your ol'skool Chicago sounds!
My short-term memory loss kicked in pretty quickly, so without naming names http://deephousepage.com/smilies/blush.gif, it was great to meet and hang with everyone.

To cut a short story long, I awoke the next day at 5.30 http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif and threw up. I went back to sleep, but at 6.30 http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif. Basically this happened about every 60 mins or so, for some reason I couldn't even keep down water.
Doctor Bart kindly administered some of that white sandy liquid stuff, which I emptied into a carrier bag in his car on the way to the airport http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif.
I sat and waited for my plane, but hell was calling me, and I had to rush outside a couple of times http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif.

Eventually I asked the random person sitting next to me (in my politest english accent) "I say, would you be so kind as to get me a medic, please).
Next thing I know I am being dragged to the first aid room, and ten minutes after that I hear the siren of an ambulance. I think to myself, wow, someone must be really ill. I then realised I was strapped to a stretcher in the back of the ambulance. :eek:
Fairly soon after that I was in a hospital somewhere in Belgium with 2 drips in my arm, and I was connected to a heart rate/blood pressure machine (beep beep beep). I must say that they were very nice at the hospital, the rooms were so clean and white, and even the nurses were very pretty (hmmm, was I in fact in heaven? http://deephousepage.com/smilies/angelharp.gif).

It seems I suffered heatstroke and was severly dehydrated, but I lived to fight another day! Hoorah!

Thanks to Red D and the entire Kinky People crew for making it happen. It was very well organised, and well attended, and the quality of people was high, everyone was into quality music.

All the DJ's were great, and they all had a unique vibe, damn you guys love your ol'skool Chicago sounds!

To cut a short story long, I awoke the next day at 5.30 http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif and threw up. I went back to sleep, but at 6.30 http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif. Basically this happened about every 60 mins or so, for some reason I couldn't even keep down water.
Doctor Bart kindly administered some of that white sandy liquid stuff, which I emptied into a carrier bag in his car on the way to the airport http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif.
I sat and waited for my plane, but hell was calling me, and I had to rush outside a couple of times http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif.

Eventually I asked the random person sitting next to me (in my politest english accent) "I say, would you be so kind as to get me a medic, please).
Next thing I know I am being dragged to the first aid room, and ten minutes after that I hear the siren of an ambulance. I think to myself, wow, someone must be really ill. I then realised I was strapped to a stretcher in the back of the ambulance. :eek:
Fairly soon after that I was in a hospital somewhere in Belgium with 2 drips in my arm, and I was connected to a heart rate/blood pressure machine (beep beep beep). I must say that they were very nice at the hospital, the rooms were so clean and white, and even the nurses were very pretty (hmmm, was I in fact in heaven? http://deephousepage.com/smilies/angelharp.gif).

PS. can't really claim being the inventor of the disco-nap, which I found out through Shelter-heads is a few hours of sleep before going to the club. My version should be labelled as mini-disco-nap, which involves actually sleeping at the club rather than at home :D Still worked out pretty well as I still had energy dancing at 7am. eh he.
