View Full Version : Nostalgia

I don't know if it was my trip back to Montreal in the summer (my 2nd home) or my trip to NYC after a 7 year hiatus or turning 32 but I am so nostaligic for the old days.
God is this what happens when we get older, I certainly did not expect this feeling. After reading Jon Martin's poem, the one on thinking (it was beautiful by-the-way) I just came to realize how sterile everything has become, life, music, people.
The drama of originality has been replaced with mediocrity, I don't know if I can survive in a world like this and keep my sanity at the same time.
Where did the fun go, where did the sweaty walls go, the anthems, the cheer, the dancers and I do mean the dancers.
Damn that Shelter, brought back alot ;)
Have I reached the point of becoming jaded?
Ok, had to get that out of me.........thx

thanks -- I'm glad you liked it. Maybe it's like the Wizard of Oz - maybe it's been here all along.

Nice post GF...ask that question again when
you get to be as old as I am.
I've got my 50th b-day coming up next year and
I'm just starting to get my juices flowing again
thanks to this board and my very dear friends
on the "Club Scene" who are still hanging in
there and encouraging me to get back into the
"business" of music.
I DID need to get away from the club scene for
5 or 6 years though.
Special shout out and much respect to one of my
mentors, Mr. David Mancuso , who's got almost 10
years on ME and is still going strong, not
as jaded or cynical as even I can be at times.

Hey GF!
Check this out: you ain't over the hill, you're just gaining speed! ;)
32??? Come on! Be greatful to be ALIVE and able to breathe. Be greatful for the clothes on your back, the crumbs on your table, the sunshine, the records in your bag, the people in your life, this "reply" that I'm throwin' at you.
Why don't you check me out tonite on www.ckut.ca (http://www.ckut.ca) (2am-7am E.S.T.) and i'mma show you what i'm talking about.
Chin check:
I was at my best friend's wedding 6 weeks ago. Two weeks ago, she told me that her 30 year old friend that was also at the wedding (an italian girl who was actually sitting at the table next to mine) died 2 weeks after the wedding. She was training at the gym. She collapsed and died in the ambulance. She died 2 weeks before her own wedding day. Her fiance was hysterical. They buried her in the wedding dress.
Take home message: be greatful cause it can all vanish in a moment graemlins/remybussi.gif
"We empty the treasure chest of the land, which nature gives to us as our inheritance, as we embark on reckless shopping sprees across the globe.
We are the traditional prodigal sons and daughters of the world.
Our generation inherits so much wealth and blessings from Mother Nature but due to mental laziness, senselessness, slothfulness and unforgivable carelessness, we are allowing ourselves to be swindled or conned out of our inheritances.
We are the classic case of the Biblical story of those that were given talents but rather than utilise them by adding value to them buried the talents in the sand."
-- taken (and slightly changed for ya) a "A Testament of a Wasted Generation: An Open Letter to the Youth of Nigeria" By Sam Abbd Israel.
he writes that the result of his generation (characterized like the above, which sounds like us here) is one of deprevation ---
"We wallowed and rejoiced in mediocrity and up till now we do not know any better. The only legacy my generation is proud to bequeath to you is the legacy of insurmountable debt, social degradation, moral depravity, spiritual decadence, wretchedness, hunger, destitution and abject poverty."
i wonder if thats what we'll think in 30 years here

I definitely miss the ish outta being in the club every chance I can get. The times are so far and few that I feel that when I can really go out and let loose my muscles and joints ache so much that I don't think I can keep going. But without even a hesitation a dope track comes on and it's like i'm 19 again. The pain is there but the music doesn't let me feel it. Big hugs to Maria and PTT for rekindling that special release that can only happen on the dancefloor. And of course, nothin but love and respect to all of you for keepin this feelin alive within me. PEACE

you have reach a certain age where it almost feels like you have experienced everything.(of course thats impossible but thats what it feels like)
and being nostalgic can be a good thing, you can use in reference to what you are doing now .

this is so not house  the baby blue with the hot pink interior sounds like a winner for the girls, but you got to make sure that the baby blue paint has that glossed-out quality that makes it look like a melted jolly rancher. and for the boys, that burnt orange is ready to be retouched with like 30 coats of paint for that robotussin syrup look. and the interior on the boys version will have two-tone burnt-orange and white gator skin leather with pseudo-mink accents. we can market these as the "ballin clean" series. graemlins/rofl.gif
definetly not house, but it surely will pay many houses over. graemlins/all_coholic.gif

1976 Cadillac El Dorado Convertible
Ladies like convertibles ;) Miss Friday, that 1976 was famous (or rather infamous) for being touted as the last American convertible...ironically, Cadillac made less convertibles the previous year (1975) than 1976 due to all the hype...i think they made a final batch of '76 convertibles all decked in white....it was during a time that there were potential safety restrictions against convertibles which drove American car manufacturers to curtail convertibles. also, convertible sales stateside were dropping at the time due to the emerging, wide-scale acceptance of air conditioning...that El Dorado goes back to 1971 and lasted all the way to 1978...1976 was the last year for the elephantine-sized 8.2 litre (500 cid) v-8 which was at the time the world largest production-car engine...the following year, Cadillac dropped a smaller yet still-gigantic 7-litre (425 cid) v8 on all their models except the Seville, whose smaller (marketed as "internationally-sized") body carried a 5.7 litre (350 cid) engine....an earlier rendition of that Eldorado was made popular in the movie "Superfly" decked out with oversized chrome headlight guards, rolls-royce grille, continental kit for starters...
after the Eldorado was discontinued, the values rose on those cars whilst most American car manufacturers started to substitute items such as sunroofs and especially t-top roofs (very popular back in the day with the Camaro/Firebird Trans Am set) until 1982 when Chrysler bought out a convertible version of their Chrysler LeBaron which was new and k-car based decked in faux wood trim...
some 1976 Eldo convertible owners at this point were not happy since their car values started to drop and i think there was even a lawsuit against gm for misleading them into believing that the 76s were going to be truly the last American convertibles ever....eventually, GM bit their words and started to reintroduce the convertible via the Eldorado's cousin, the Buick Riviera back in the latter part of 1982. Ultimately, the El Dorado convertible made a return back at the Cadillac stable for the 1984-1985 years (customized by ASC aka "American Sunroof Company") that were still large but manegable with a 4.1 v8...this is a favorite of mine:) such as the white one below...

and here's one draped in pink with a continental tire kit..

1965 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special
:D
Thank you for the laughs, I sure do need a lot of them graemlins/bighug.gif See you got me looking up sillyness ;) beautiful GF! that Fleetwood along with the Calais and the DeVille series were all new for 1965....with the new bodystyle came the elimination of tail fins, which were progressively becoming shorter ever since its zenith with the infamous 1959....
here's a 1964 Series 62 with the last tail fin design...
http://1964cadillac.carsouth.com/fsm.jpg
however, the 1965 Fleetwood Series 75 limosuine basically carried over the previous year design with the tail fin, but by 1966, it was updated with the all-new '65 design without the tail fin...
http://www.starryauto.com/pimg.htm
1965 Fleetwood Series 75 Limosuine
if i'm not mistaken, the Fleetwood in 1965 had a new "Brougham" package which featured a vinyl roof, which was starting to make way at that time as a popular accessory in American cars much like spoilers are today (though nowhere near the popularity vinyl/landau roofs exploded in the seventies)....
no, thank you Miss Friday for keeping my spirits up...likewise, i needed them really, really bad these past days with some personal things in my life that i'm not too happy about...thanks for making the days brighter and silly...may your week be a good one!
