Man, you can't go wrong with this cut, nothing crazy, nothing original, just simple and affective. I didn't know that it the main part of the song was an actual sample until I heard the song in which the sample was taken from. Blew me away. It's one of those samples you don't find, but bump into.

i'm stumped.

This is one of my favorite cuts though. Groove, you just keep on picking them!

Victor Simonelli was the man back then. I loved his stuff.

Stumped on this one.

Dumb question: Did the record it was sampled from have a red, white and blue jacket sleeve and center label?

Ebony Soul is one of my favorite House cuts and def. my favorite Eigthball tune. So New York!
Two copies is a must.

I can't come up with the sampel source though.

Peace.

OK, here's the answer to the question.

That eerie tone that you hear throughout the song came from the intro to Young and Company's "I like what you're doing to me".

Gerd I know, it slapped me in the face when I was listening to the radio one day a couple of years ago. I heard the intro and that one snippet popped up in my head. I grabbed one of my old mixtapes found the song, sampled that "snippet" on my brother's Casio SK-1 and starting laughing.

I always recognized "I like.." as one of Kenny's sample sources for DBX "And There Ain't", but it's really hard to think the same for Ebony Soul. But I just checked my copy of Young Company and have to admit it. You are right, Groove.
But it isn't as easy to recognize as the aforementioned.

Peace.

Gerd The samples used in DBX's "And there ain't" are Funkadelic's "Not just Knee Deep", Evelyn Champaign King's "I'm in Love" and Positive Force's "We got the funk". I'll have to listen to it again because I don't remember hearing "I like what you're doing to me" within the track.

You got the chord progression from Young and Company done with the Casio SK1 right.

Now can you guess who the Vocalist is ?
