Peace.

I would like to extend a section of a song.

Can anyone give tips on the following:

1. Pinpointing the first edit point. Can I slow down the song (within the program) to make it easier? Or is it hit or miss?

2. Once I have the section to be extended identified, is there a way to copy that section several times and then paste is unto itself (hope that made sense)

If anyone has a quickie step-by-step method, that would be appreciated.

rob - in sound forge just highlight the section of the song you want to copy. you can use the playback loop function to make sure the section you have highlight is tight. edit, copy, place the marker to the section of the song where you want to insert and perform a paste.

sound forge also has a feature for changing the tempo. pretty easy. you learn more through trial and error. start small - play with a small 2-3 bar clip. copy, cut, paste, delete, mess with the plug ins, normalize, fades, until you get the hang of it. once you know how your tools work, then jump in to re-editing.

Enlarge your display and make certain you have enabled "snap to zero crossings" in the edit menu. This will make the cursor snap at points where there are no peaks and will help you to find the appropriate loop points.

Here are some tips:

1. Push play
2. Press the M letter on your keyboard whe you hear the start point of what you want to extend.
3. Play it again and hit the M button on your keyboard at the end point of what you want to extend.

the M button = Marker, everytime you press it - it will put a Red line at the points you are trying to work on.

4. Highlight the area between the Red lines.
5. Press the Down arrow key on your keyboard (that enlarges the area you're working on)
6. Press the loop button and use your Space Bar to start / stop the music from playing.
7. Move the highlited or hold the right button on your mouse to move the Red marker lines to where you need them to be.
8. Make the highlited area match the red lines.
9. Adjust & play the loop until is is just the way you want it.
10. Copy the loop portion and paste it at the Red Marker line.
(you can zoom all the way in and place the curser in the play area - close as you can to the Red Line) (you can use you the left / right arrow keys to place it exactally on your mark)
11. Right click & paste your loop and thats it smile.gif

If you want to extend that part more than just one time, keep right clicking & pasteing until you have enough loops. The good part is, long as you Right click first, you dont need to line up the loops behind eachother, it will automatically place to loop behind the previous loop.

Play back your work and if you have to many loops, click edit & undo paste as many times as need be until you have the exact number of loops.

I am not one to tell someone "ah that is easy blah blah blah, and give alot of Tech Terms" I give easy to follow instructions.

Good Luck smile.gif
