I always say I am going to get one. I will have the money and then I will see a shirt or some shoes I want and I will spend the money on that.

Got a few. They are addictive. Find something original to put on your body. And most importantly find a reputable tattoo parlor and good artist. Most are garbage.

I have an ankh on my shoulder blade (which I got at Jade Dragon in Chicago and it bled for four damn days!) and some swirls on the small of my back.

I've got a star on my back shoulder blade. Got it when I was 18 - walked into the tattoo parlour, told the guy what I wanted - he said he didn't have a star, then looked on the bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale (evil loopy juice beer - 3/4 bottles of this sees me gone) he was drinking - so I got that on my back.
Man drinking beer with one hand, tattoo gun in the other. I was young - I didn't make the connection...

Get custom work from a good shop. Even if you are getting a small tattoo, get it from an artist who regularly does large peices. These are the experienced artitst that tattoo fanatics trust when they are spending the big bucks.
I am addicted also, and much of my body will be convered with ink eventually. It's expensive though, and I'm even more addicted to records so it's slow going.
And hey, it doesn't hurt _that_ bad (depending on where you get it ;) )

I have 2 of 'em. My first on is on my arm near my shoulder. It's an ankh there with my kids names (will have to update that soon ;) ) and on my lower back I have a very big sun. They are very addictive. I had someone draw out my next one and its just a matter of time before I get it done.

I would like to get an Andinkra symbol (created by the Akan people of west Africa, esp. Ghana) on either my lower back or below my shoulder blade. However, I'm still recovering from the hair-raising pain of the nose piercing last month! ;)
Either this one: http://www.library.cornell.edu/africana/Writing_Systems/ASymbols/Gye_nyame.jpg
"GYE NYAME" (Except for God): A symbol of the omnipotence of God
Or this one:
http://www.library.cornell.edu/africana/Writing_Systems/ASymbols/Osram_ne_nsoroma.JPG
"OSRAM NE NSOROMMA" (The Moon and the Star): Symbol of love, faithfulness and harmony (The North Star is the wife; the moon is the husband)...
Jotex and I used this one for our wedding invitations, and I love what it means. However, not sure I want to go through life with a beetle-like character on my person:
http://www.library.cornell.edu/africana/Writing_Systems/ASymbols/Odo_nyera_fie_kwam.JPG
"ODO NNYEW FIE KWAN": Love never gets lost on its way home
Still deciding... smile.gif

:D OUCH! biggrinangel.gif You are so brave...I am not so much into piercings but tattoos are a whole different ball game. My phoenix is on the inside of my right ankle and omg it hurt. I was 19 when I got it done by this women with teased blonde hair, a whole lot of tattoos who dressed in black leather. All I can remember was that she had the biggest breasts I had ever seen up close. I think she might have been part of the Hells Angels here. Anyhow, she was the bomb! smile.gif What an amazing woman. All her stories made the whole experience worth it.
Unfortunately she had to close her shop because of the heroin trafficking they were doing there.....go figure .

i've had this slave bracelet of a phoenix made of andacite and silver that i've owned since i was 17. i always wear it. i consider it sort of my personal mojo. i'm sure you know what the phoenix symbolizes.
and on another note its also a reason why i'm looking forward to the next X Men movie.

I have 2 -- a cat on my arm and a dragon on my shoulder. I think the tattoo should be something that kind of represents your personality. I think of my cat as my alter ego--considering it's a black cat with a red bow--real sexy like.

i currently have three tattoos. one is a half-sleeve that soon will be a full sleeve.
according to the maori tradition (i'm not maori), tattoos represent the image you present to the world and without them you're vulnerable. so tattoos end up being like protection.
in that respect, mine give me protection. my tattoos present this hard, intimidating image to the world, so i don't actually have to waste energy trying to be hard and intimidating.

I got one when I was 16. A friend just bought a new tattoo gun. I got drunk but it didn't numb the pain too much. It just clouded my judgement and when I woke this was on my arm:
http://www.neubauten.org/images/kollaps.jpg
I go it for free and I was really into EN at the time. It kinda hit me what I did the first time I washed my car with no shirt and I forgot and my Mom saw i and said "what the hell is that!?!" Damn. Then 10 years later I get a toungue ring and tryed to hide that from her. Didn't talk to her until the swelling went down. I sounded like a gay Elmer Fudd for a week. Kept it from her for a long time until one day she was talking to me and I yawned without covering my mouth. My Mom is so old fashioned and conservative anything shocks her. Like that time I came home with a green mohawk when I was 14. Sorry Mom. Peace. biggrinangel.gif
