Goodmorning, im at work and this has been on my head for a while now.
What are you as a dj worth?
Would you as a dj take a job that's paying you $50.00 for6 hrs.?
Would you undercut another's dj pay just to get on the deck's?
Do you think the promoter's, well some promoter's in chicago take us for granted because dj's are a dime a dozen in chicago, so some dj's would fight over little of nothing?
Do you think dj's here are under-rated due to the fact that promoter's hire out of town dj's, pay them big buck's, with liveing exp., when dj's in chicago can do the same thing?
Out of all the posting point's i said, what do you think that you are worth?

A DJ like anything else is worth what individuals in the market are willing to pay for him/her.

I think DJ's are worth much more than $50, in fact, add another zero and say they are worth $500.
I think one of the issues in Chicago is the number of free spots and the size of the venues. For example a club that only holds 250 - 300 people and chages no cover is very limited in what they can make at the bar. If you own/manage a club and the avg rings are 4500 how much are you going to pay your DJ when you have other operational expense ?
That being said I can see why smaller venues may only offer $150 or $200 a night. I don't agree with this but can understand. I do have an issue with the bigger clubs that charge covers, can hold more than 500 people and try to pay DJ's $200. I also think that those DJ's who accept lower pay drive the market down. I think we need to learn from out out of town jocks. Either you pay or I don't play. BTW,There are some Chicago Jocks who believe hold to this rule but it's not the norm.

There can be many aspects to a paycheck. Combine "green energy" - with joy - and learning something new from each event....just to name a few.
