I just picked up "Jazz In The House 11" and it's one of the best compilations I've heard. Every song is hot. Overall I think that the "Jazz In The House" series may be the best compilation series I've heard since the "Mastercuts" series. Are there any other series that put out consistently good compilation albums?

the Eskimo Comps are very good (get the unmixed LP's), there is one on Strut which is great, and most stuff on BBE tends to be very good, there are so many though...

Mastercuts (Beechwood Music), hands down.

whether it be funk, jazz funk, new jack swing, rare groove, disco or any other genre they covered so far, for more than a decade Mastercuts have compiled definitive music. the state-of-the-art selections, the critical appraisal, the on-point brevity, the quality of mastering and production, the product design - everything fits. Mastercuts defined how and why music compilations could and should be so important today. It's encyclopaedic listening - basically you don't need any other sources to understand the foundations of 20th century rhythm & blues. wanna make me happy, just get me a Mastercuts on anything.

what? you think i work for Beechwood??? gedda****ouddaheeeere! :D

A good (actually great IMO) house comp is one on Sm:)e records. I forget the name but it has some classic early 90's house tunes like "Koro Koro"(No Smoke) "Dream Drums"(lectro luv) "I Can't Stop"(Plez)...and other good ones that I can't remember at the moment.

The Strictly Breaks, Ultimate Breaks and Beats, and the Diggin compilations are great for producers. Overall, Mastercuts has the best compilation sereies I've seen.

Martin I'm with you on the Electro streetsounds comps I used 2,3,and 4 for my early explorations into breakin . They were killers and very progressive especially 4 with Beethoven's fifth symp and Juan Atkins - Techno City . No 4 housed one of my all time breakin tracks Key Matic's - Breakin In Space . pure brick size walkman pleasure at 11 years old .
The Fela box sets are great as well and I really like the Strata East Jazz comps from the mid 90's some great tracks on those .
And yes David's Loft series was very nice ,I really enjoyed the magazine it came with very informative and well written by Tim Lawrence - can't wait for his book .

Peace Alex :D
