from last night...El Cantante
Yo soy el cantante
que hoy han venido a escuchar
lo mejor del repertorio a ustedes voy a brindar.
Y canto a la vida de risas y penas
de momentos malos y de cosas buenas.
Vinieron a divertirse
y pagaron en la puerta
no hay tiempo para tristeza
Vamos cantante comienza.
Me paran siempre en la calle
mucha gente que comenta
¡Oye Hector ah! tu estas hecho
simpre con hembras y en fiestas
Y nadie pregunta si sufro si lloro
si tengo una pena
que hiere muy hondo
Yo soy el Cantante
porque lo mío es cantar
y el público paga
para poderme escuchar.
Yo soy el cantante muy popular donde quiera;
pero cuando el show se acaba
soy otro humano cualquiera
Y sigo mi vida con risas y penas
con ratos amargos y con cosas buenas
Yo soy el cantante
y mi negocio es cantar
y a los que me siguen
mi canción voy a brindar.
Hoy te dedico mis mejores pregones...
The Singer
I am the singer
that they have come to hear today
The best of my repertoire will be brought to you
And I sing to the life of laughter and pains
Of bad moments and of good things
They all came to have a good time
And they pay at the door
there is no time for sadness
C'mon singer, get started.
They always stop me in the street
People that comment
Hey Hector! You always have it made
You're always with women and at parties
And noone asks, if I suffer, if I cry
If I have a pain
That hurts deeply
I am the Singer
Because my skill is singing
and the public pays
In order to hear me.
I am the singer, popular everywhere
But when the show is over
I am just like any other human
And my life goes on, with laughter and pains
With bitter moments, and with good things
I am the singer
And it's my job to sing
And for those that follow me
I toast my song to you
Today I dedicate to you my best verses...

That's the point when the hairs stand up on my arms. No matter how many times I hear it, those strings get me everytime.
Thanks for posting this. Now I can sing along...LOUD.

That's what I thought Brenda. ¡Hace tiempo que no te veo m'hija! :D
El Watusi by Ray Baretto is one of the songs that comes to mind for Carlito's Way, they also had Santana's Oye Como Va. I think you may be thinking of Hector Lavoe because strings are predominant in the soundtrack/score, very nice score by the way and the credit goes to Jellybean recordings. He ain't my cup of tea but he did good work on this.

I haven't a clue as to who the musician is, maybe its on my CD at home, but you are right, that brass at the end is perfecto for the action scene thru the train station!
