Its a nice rhyme but I've heard much better from him and I don't think this is freestyle.
I could be wrong but there's way to much there (too many rapid fire lines, very indepth topic, lines that had to have been thought up before hand, etc) to be freestyle. When I hear someone truly freestyle, I want to hear them discuss the things around them right then and there, talk about my man's hat, talk about the studio, talk about something so I know its a freestyle, not written.
Again, I could be wrong, but thats how it comes off.
.. oh and I find it disgusting that they would give him THAT beat to rhyme over. Its almost like a diss to him to give him a beat that stands for everything he doesn't stand for.... then again, he's always liked to come at the commercial cats like that so whatever....
The best freestyle I've ever heard on the radio was Busta Rhymes back in I guess 97ish on the radio here in DC. He was on some tour with Mace when Mace was popular and they were doing a studio appearance prior to the show.
The host wanted them to do a little somethin so Busta grabs the mic, does his thing, pretty simple, nothing REMARKABLE, somewhat short, but definitely freestyle. The host goes "ok ok Mace, you're up" and Mace grabs the mic.
Mace spits some typical BS that wasn't a freestyle and wasn't that good. Everyone in the studio is like ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap, yo... you hear that yooooooooo and the host gives the mic back to Busta and says "You're turn to step up".
Busta gets the mic, does his thing, little more complex, little better flow, all still completely freestyle and definitely nastier than Mace's garbage. The host says "ok ok nice nice Mace, you're turn" and gives the mic back to Mace.
Mace spits some typical BS that wasn't a freestyle and wasn't that good. Everyone in the studio is like ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap, yo... you hear that yooooooooo and the host gives the mic back to Busta and says "You're turn to step up".
(i quoted that verbatim from the first paragraph about Mace because his second run was exactly as uneventful, uncreative and boring as the first go around)
They give the mic back to Busta and before he starts rhyming he says "alright, look, we about to do somethin up in here..." with this tone in his voice like he was getting pissed because everyone was jocking such garbage that wasn't a freestyle at all....
....and proceeds to go on a RAMPAGE on the mic, BLAZING this freestyle that was so ridiculous I could barely get a "WOOOOO" out without missing another ridiculous line. It got so bad the host tried to cut him off at like 64 bars and Busta started freestyling off of what the host said, the host tried to cut him off after that to "go to commercial" and Busta did like 16 lines about commercials, the host tried to cut him off to do an announcement about the concert they were doing and Busta did a good 30-45 seconds about the word "show" etc etc etc.
He went non-stop for easily 15-18 minutes because I drove all the way from my boys house to the club listening to him freestyle. That one moment embodied everything I've always loved about hip-hop.
Mace stayed quiet.
Peace

Say Skillz, Good lookin with the link money, Also, Deesko, You mentioned that Busta Rhymes went hard from the top(What cats today call freestyle)with his, I definitely wish you had a tape of that my man(LOL), I always felt that Busta Rhymes was crazy weak lyrically, But the Potential to become nice(Lyrically)was there because he had the voice and the delivery, But the rhymes were oatmeal weak(LOL), I felt Busta Rhymes only came off because he was a novelty type cat(Pure comedy with this cat), Even with leaders of the New School, I felt that the cat who was the best Rapper was Charlie Brown, Even Dingo D was nicer than Busta Rhymes to me(LOL), One thing i can say about Busta Rhymes is, He has great respect for the old school cats like the Treacherous 3,Furious 5,Coldcrush 4,Hollywood,Lovebug Starski, etc, I have a tape(VHS)Of the show 'Teen Summit', from i think 1999, And Busta Rhymes was on the show with Rah Digger, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Caz, And another cat who i cannot remember, But, Busta Rhymes was giving the young kids on the show a Hiphop History lesson which was very nice to see, Because Busta Rhymes is a very well-known cat on the Rap music scene, And the kids on the show respected not only his words, But Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Caz's words and thoughts on Hiphop and today's Rap scene, I wish Busta Rhymes could make a few records were he can show his Mc skills for the party people in the place to be(LOL).

P.S. Say Deesko, Have you ever heard of a cat named Big L from Uptown(Harlem/Rip)who was crew with Mace and Camron, And speaking of going from the top(Being very creative Lyrically), How do you like my man Lord Finesse from the Boogie Down Bronx, I heard he's more into the Production end of the business nowdays.

Lord Finesse! King of the metaphor!
Busta may not say much of substance, but he can spit faster than just about everybody except for twista. That "Gimme Somne More" joint he did was just silly. he had a track with Mystical too, the speed at which they were rhyming was just hard to believe.
Big L was crazy nice, too. So sad.

Say Dj 138, I have an old tape with Kool Moe D(The creator of the fast rhyming style in 1978)from 1983 at T-Connection in the Bronx, That i will put up against any Mc/Rapper, When it comes to rocking rhymes very fast(And making sense doing it), Also, If you don't have it already, Check out The Treacherous 3's joint from 1979 called 'The New Rap Langauge, Featuring Sponnie G, If anyone can name 4 Mc's/Rappers who can rock rhymes like that with a very fast style in doing it and making sense(Which is very important)then, I'll give away all of my old School Hiphop tapes(LOL).

Mike Barnes Yeah, Moe Dee held it down for a minute. i think I might have that tape too. I used to buy all those old joints from Kay Gee. He would come by my Sunday night gig with a little case filled with all those classic battles. The quality was surprisingly decent, considering that they must have been like 300th generation dubs. I need to dig those out of my closet.

Say Dj 138, Craig G is crazy nice with his lyrically, But when it comes to having rhymes(especially when it comes to Battling), Would you/Or anyone else, Put Craig G over Kool G.Rap. And I heard Big Daddy Kane is still on the Rap Scene, Where would Kane fit in when it comes to cats who can go from the top with theirs nowdays.

Mike Barnes I don't think I ever heard G Rap in a battle setting, or Kane for that matter, so it's hard to say. I was never a huge Craig G, fan, mind you, but he did win a lot of freestyle battles in NY in the 90s. I am very out of that loop these days. G Rap and Kane are both amazing MCs. "Ill Street Blues" is one of my all time favorite jams. And Kane, well not many people could **** with him when he was at the to pof his game. Like this:
Let it roll, get bold, I just can't hold
Back, or fold cos I'm a man with soul
In control and effect, so what the heck
Rock the discotheques and this groove is what's next
Attack, react, exact, the mack'll move you with
A strong song, as long as you groove to this
I keep the crowd loud when you're hype
Do damage onstage and injure the mic
As I shoot the gift MC's stand stiff
While my rhymes stick to you like Skippy and Jif
Feel my blood fist, or my death kiss
The rap soloist, you don't want none of this
Supreme in this era, I reign with terror
When I grab the mic believe you're gonna hear a
Fascinatin' rhyme as I enchant them
So let's all sing the Big Daddy anthem
Go with the flow, my rhymes grow like an afro
I entertain again and Kane'll never have no
Problem, I can sneeze, sniffle and cough
E-e-e-even if I stutter Imma still come off
Cos rappers can't understand the mics I rip
They sure enough ain't equipped, that's why they got flipped
But my apparatus is up to status
Don't ask who's the baddest, of course that is
The maker, breaker, taker, my rhymes ache the head
Put it to bed, so watch what is said
Save the bass for the pipe and rearrange your tone
Or take a loss and be forced in the danger zone
Cos I get ill and kill at will
Teachin' a skill that's real, you're no thrill
So just stand still and chill as I build
Science I drill until my rhymes fill
Your head up...don't even get up
The teacher is teachin', so just shut up
Speaking of G Rap, I heard a relatively new MOP song the other night, "Live From Ground Zero", that was amazing , and it reminded me a lot of G Rap.

Busta definitely was comedic but at the same time, thats something I love about hip-hop cats... they had some personality. Lyrically he may not be as versed as De La, Common or Guru as a wordsmith, but he definitely has a gift for pronunciation and delivery and really, I think he hit a lyrical plateau around the time of "The Coming" when Dangerous, Put Your Hands, etc were dropping. His delivery and lyrics really were groundbreaking and different than the stuff around him, and he does speak on a lot of topics not many other rappers speak on, but makes it "cool"... how many people have I seen singing along about having a 401k plan because it was in his song ya know ?
As for his respect for the old... he's definitely on point with that.
Now... Big L... come on... that entire Diggin' in the Crates crew is lovely.
Their CD from a couple of years back was SLEPT on commercially but was probably one of the top 5 albums in hip-hop that year.
I've never heard Big L freestyle that I know of but I'm sure he was nice. His lyrics and delivery were so in sync with his beats that I can't possibly see him NOT being nice. I've also never heard Lord Finesse freestyle that I know of, but I've got a coupe of his albums and they were definitely nice. The only thing I didn't like about it was that some of his stuff didn't have much EDGE to it, there wasn't a lot of RAH to it but then again it has been a LONG time since I've popped the CD in so maybe I need to go revisit that era.
One of my favs of all time that never really got as much love as I thought he should would be Grand Puba. Again, delivery delivery delivery. Pauses, tonal changes, writing his words to be perfectly syncopated with the beats... mmmmm

Supernatural was doing a lot of B-Boy events. We caught him and his son at the Rock Steady Reunion in 97, then he was at this event in Virginia in I guess 99 or 00 and I know he's hosted/performed in at least one of the big events out in Cali in the past couple of years.
Big Daddy Kane is usually around or performing at the Rock Steady Reunions as well. The "underground" aspect of hip-hop is quickly becoming as "underground" as house music with the excessive prominence of the commercial side of things, especially since so many ex-"underground" rappers are doing commercial stuff now. The gap is growing in my opinion.

Hit this site...the have a RACK of classic emcee battles including Supernatural etc etc etc....
http://www.emceebattles.com/html/audio.htm
The Juice vs Supernatural battle is NASTY and was a heated subject in hip-hop circles for a LONG time regarding who won.
Also, Skillz... I'm curious about something... I'm not arguing because everybody has opinions but how is something written a freestyle ?
Can you have lines that you just KNOW kinda like a familiar dance step you like to go back to, sure, but if you're freestyling, I would think that by definition that would be non-written because its supposed to be "off the top"......
Peace
oh yeah, Skillz, that Big L link isn't working.

Rob "The exact definition of freestyling hasn't been pinpointed. Some rappers consider it just rhyming a written verse over any given beat."
"
Is a freestyle, a freestyle, if it's written?
Well, there are two types of freestyles. A lot of emcees go by this book and I'm one of them. There's one where it's off the head, where it's simply "off the head." Then there's the written - no topic. Just battle freestyle. But yeah, it can be written. Usually those are ones that you only hear once though. They're pretty scarce. But if somebody asks me if I've spit a written - I'll straight up tell them "It's written." You know I ain't tryin' to pull no wool over anybody's eyes."
Yo, when Kool Moe Dee tore down Busy B he did not tell anyone for years that he wrote that right before he got on the mic. Lots of cats will change up their written joints by using what is going on around them, and come off as a dope freestyle. No one really knows is the cat is really coming off the top unless they call out subject matter to kick. Like Bobbitto used to do to guest. I have been around mad cats (Biggie, Kool G Rap, Rakim) that could not go when asked to just spit something real quick.

Just to add on to the information that Dj Skillz put out there concerning Kool Moe D's battle with Busy Bee, There were two battles at Harlem World(Legendary Hip Hop spot Uptown), Skillz is correct when he mentioned that Kool Moe D(Who originally was not even in the MC battle contest), But, Busy Bee was talking so much junk about taking out any Mc on the Mic, Kool Moe D could not pass on the opportunity to let Busy Bee have it lyrically, Kool Moe D mentioned on a Old School Hiphop documentary with Fab Five Freddy Hosting that he(Kool Moe D)went off to the side and wrote some rhymes about Busy Bee and asked Charlie Rock/Son of Sam(the Host of the MC Battle)to include him into the Mc contest, The second battle took place on New Year's eve of 1981/82, And Kool Moe D got there late(Kool Moe D mentioned this on an interview that was posted on this site awhile ago),But Kool Moe D got to the spot(Harlem World) just in time, and went form the top hard on busy Bee, Just talking about his lack of rhymes, always saying the same weak rhymes at every party of battle and imitating Busy Bee's voice in doing so, When it comes to battling from the top, Cats like Kool Moe D,Grandmaster Caz, KRS-One, Adn big Daddy Kane are at the top of the list.
